Thanks Propat. I understand what you meant about being in the right position.
As far as H&R......a bunch of crooks with poor training and taking advantage of our elderlies.
Thank you for all your help. If you think of something else.....let me know.

Re: End of November Claims
widow I would use the same guy you used before since he is familiar with your situation otherwise I would advise a tax lawyer. there are a few choices available to you as to how to claim this money since it was a deceased persons income either under your return , under a new return for him , amending his old returns ore amending his estate return. their are also different approaches among these choices. whoever you decide make sure they know what they are doing as you are in a great situation TAX WISE . pleas don't take that last statement as cold and heartless it is not meant to be. its just that the tax laws will favor you in your situation.

Re: End of November Claims
Thank you propat for the advice. Any advice, I appreciate. Should I see an accountant or a lawyer to do these tax papers? Seems so complicated. The taxes were very complicated when he passed away and this time......seems like it will be the same or maybe worse. I had an accountant do my taxes that year. Usually I do them myself.
Trooper......thank you for your kind words.

Manulife advises us that they are currently processing the claims of deceased members and that we will receive a batch at the end of the month. We will advise when we receive these claims.

Re: End of November Claims
nav you are correct buds but that does not include tax unfortunately.
widow refer this to the lawyer who represented your husbands estate now some financial planers and such don't seem to be aware of some of the tax code so make sure you ask him to look at Special Return for "Rights or Things" (s. 70(2), (3) of the Act) to see if it can provide some relief.

Re: End of November Claims
Good to know Nav. He already owed a bit of tax which I paid when he passed. Was very little but they send me the bill.
I didn't know it could be taxed in either names. I will call MC and ask questions.
Should I also ask for tax relief? I am not sure where I stand as far as taxes.
I wrote your questions down so I can ask on Monday.
Thanks a lot Nav.

Re: End of November Claims
Great news, it's coming, WOV , I am also wondering if you have looked into the tax implications of your retro, will it be taxed in your deceased husbands name or yours and with the retro being able to be spread out for prior tax years , whose tax years will be used, yours or your deceased, it might be something to look into because if your deceased owes taxes, your no responsible for your husbands debt
