OVO Team Update Empty Re: OVO Team Update

The Team Leader award to Charlie Cue is long overdue.  Charlie or as he likes to go by Q is the creator of the Benefit Navigator used by VAC.

Q worked on it for a few years and within a year of showing VAC staff it was adopted, and implemented.  Q started work on it around 2010 and presented it to VAC in the summer of 2012  VAC quickly polished it and put it on line in early 2013.  It started from a 80+ page power point slide show to a fully linked navigator for all veterans from WW II to SDA to Afghanistan.

Though veterans only have access to the Readers Digest version of the Benefits Navigator the whole Navigator is a work of dedication to improve, and provide continuity, veterans benefits they are entitled to.

OVO Team Update Empty OVO Team Update

I thought it would be a good idea to update you once in a while on the changes within the Team of the Office of the Veterans Ombudsman (OVO).

It is with great pleasure that I welcome Sharon Squire to our Team. Sharon will be taking up the role of Deputy Ombudsman and Executive Director of Operations beginning on May 20, 2014.

Sharon comes to us from her previous position as Executive Director of Service Policy, including social media and community enablement, at the office of the Chief Information Officer, Treasury Board Secretariat. She is a proven leader of horizontal policy, strategy and program implementation in diverse milieu from national / international sports to human resources management and to service delivery in departments and central agencies.

We offer her a warm welcome as she takes up a leading role in our team and we look forward to working with her to ensure that Veterans and their families are treated with respect, dignity and fairness in accordance with the Veterans Bill of Rights.

I would also like to take this opportunity to recognize the dedication and effort of two valuable members of our team: Michel Guay and Charlie Cue. After being nominated earlier this year by OVO Team members, I was very pleased to see that they were selected as the recipients of the 2014 Veterans Affairs Award of Excellence, Team Leadership Category. The award will be presented to them during Public Service week in June.

In the submission for the award, Team members wrote that Michel and Charlie are exemplary in their service to the OVO Team members and to Veterans and their families. It was also stated that both men are committed to achieving results and they always lead by example. The inspiration and support that Charlie and Michel bring is one more reason that makes the OVO an awesome place to work!
