Re: Family Doctor Trouble/Discrimination
Our Dr calls vet paperwork "free work". I'm guessing because of delays payments. So far he's sticking with us. It sure is hard to find food drs. Word of mouth works best. Talking to local vets, etc. I hope it works out for u!

trooper, you are right there. I had a issue awhile back, and cc Peter. That night at 9:30 he calls me. I was quite surprised and very impressed with his phone call. Meli - give that route a try. VVV..

Re: Family Doctor Trouble/Discrimination
This doctor basically came right out an not only refused to deal with VAC both also refused to support you , one good thing is that you would not want an Ignorant Idiot like that looking after you anyway , so you have been given a heads up in not having this doctor , be your doctor.
Unfortunately these things do occur from time to time , my advice to you is I see your in NS so I would phone Peter Stoffer an tell him your ordeal , give him the doctors name who refused you an tell him you don't want that doctor but you want it noted , an ask Peter if he can help you in finding another doctor in your area , an I guarantee you things will be handled - an handled quickly.
Good Luck !

Sorry I cannot offer any valuable help either, but would like to add to what Rex has said (which in my experience is so right........VAC / VRAB call the specialists we use, uncredible and they are not even using a medically qualified doctor to do that........they use an online medical dictionary...Merck Manual) and that is.......it is good for VAC / VRAB when a veteran has doctor troubles. Although they call our doctors liars it is just another reason to deny a claim for not having all the requested information competed. It's a joke because whether it is completed or not, they still don't use that information to help the veteran in his / her favour.
We are between a rock and a hard place......damned if we do....damned if we don't.
Keep looking.....it is in your best interest.

Re: Family Doctor Trouble/Discrimination
Well all I can suggest is you talk to other Veterans in your area, and find out who they see, and get some phone numbers Call those doctors, and see if they are willing to take on an extra patient.

Hello ALL its been some time, a rough stretch , been able to read but did not have the ability to respond, enough on that . Big rex Unfortunately your bang on with some of these Doctors . Hell it has become pick and choose for some of these less desirable Doctors, Im not sure what Med school they came from, where they teach be selective on which sick Canadians you treat.
Meli sorry to hear yet another Vet getting screwed. HAVE you informed your psychologist as to what has transpired ? Get a copy of all prescriptions you are on from your pharmacy to show a record of what you are on and how long. The reason I say this just encase your medication is running low and you might have to visit an emergency room, until this dr issue is rectified . This way you have a record of what you have been on, so the emerg dr does not think your just after pills. So try to stay calm and ensure you have access to your meds first, once that's been taken care of, finding a dr and getting the vac paper work will come later, your health is your number one goal. There are other from NS like big rex that might be able to direct you as to where you might find a Dr.

Thanks for the different perspective. I can understand that side of it but the first rule is to do no harm - that comes first.
Any suggestions?

Re: Family Doctor Trouble/Discrimination
Unfortunately, yours is not a unique story. The medical field is pretty small, and they hear the horror stories from other doctors. Delayed payments. Having to repeatedly justify new prescriptions. Multiple reports and medicals for the same condition. And the biggest insult is, when they do write a supporting letter, giving their medical opinion, staff at VAC or VRAB, either completely ignore their opinion, question their competency, or outright call them liars. Like telling an orthopedic Surgeon with 30 years of experience, that his medical opinion, is merely speculation, at best. It may be wrong to deny service to a Veteran, but it can be somewhat understandable, and it will continue to happen, until VAC gets rid of the insurance company style Delay, Deny and Discourage mentality.

Family Doctor Trouble/Discrimination
Hi everyone, I'm new here, and not sure if this is being put in the correct section. please bare with me.
Approximately 5 months ago I changed family doctors on the advice of my psychologist (VAC appointed) and my CM. Today I went to see my new one to have him fill out my disability application for VAC and he refused. He said he didn't realize I was a vet, wouldn't have taken me on if I was, doesn't want a vet, doesn't do vet paperwork. After informing him (calmly, somehow) that he is, in fact, paid to do this and he can't discriminate that way, he walked out.
It looks like I am in need of a new family doctor now, but how the hell am I supposed to manage without one? It is SO hard to find one, VAC doesn't help, and who is going to prescribe me all my many, many meds in the meantime (some of which I can't get through a walk in clinic).
I am so mad! I'm pissed off. I already talked to the CPSNS and they are sending out paperwork for me to file a complaint, but goddammit - I'm a wreck.
