The CFIS is maxed at $2324 for a married Veteran, plus $345 per dependent child. From that amount, they deduct any income, as described in the regulations.

"income, in respect of a person for a base calendar year, has the same meaning as in section 2 of the Old Age Security Act except that

(a) it does not include the aggregate of net income from employment, self-employment or rental of property that is equal to or less than

(i) in the case of a veteran with no spouse or common-law partner, $2,900,

(ii) in the case of a veteran with a spouse or common-law partner, $4,200,

(iii) in the case of a survivor, $2,900, and

(iv) in the case of an orphan, $2,900;

(b) it does not include interest income that, in the case of a veteran, survivor or orphan, is equal to or less than $140;

(c) it does not include earnings loss benefits payable under section 18 or 22 of the Act;

(d) it does not include long-term disability benefits payable under the Service Income Security Insurance Plan Long Term Disability (LTD);

(e) paragraph (d) of the definition “income” in section 2 of the Old Age Security Act does not apply;

(f) business and capital losses shall be taken into account in the year in which they occur; and

(g) dividend income shall be taken into account on the basis of the actual amount of the dividend. (revenu)"

Thanks.
Although it doesn't clearly state what one receives...
I'm thinking that someone receives the maximum amount less other sources of income. Not sure to be honest.

Canadian Forces Income Support Empty Canadian Forces Income Support Benefit - Income Assessment:

Post by Guest Sun 29 Jan 2017, 15:12

Canadian Forces Income Support Benefit - Income Assessment:

Purpose This policy describes those income sources that are assessable, as well as those deductions which are permitted, when calculating the amount of the Canadian Forces Income Support (CFIS) benefit to be paid.

Policy

General

1. The CFIS benefit is a form of income support available to qualified Canadian Force Veterans, survivors or orphans who are no longer eligible for an Earnings Loss (EL) benefit. (See policy, CFIS – Eligibility).

2. The CFIS Program uses, in part, the definition of income contained in the Old Age Security (OAS) Act. This definition relies on Part I, Division B (Computation of Income), of the Income Tax Act to determine what monies constitute income or allowable deductions.

3. Any deduction provided by the Income Tax Act that is outside the scope of Part 1, Division B, for example the Capital Gains deduction, is not applicable for CFIS program purposes.

Canadian Forces Income Support

The Canadian Forces Income Support (CFIS) is a tax-free monthly benefit to help low-income CAF Veterans, survivors, and dependent children.

Do I qualify?

Veterans

You may qualify if you have a low household income and:
  • you no longer qualify for the Earnings Loss Benefit;
or
  • you are under age 65 and searching for suitable gainful employment.

Survivors and dependent children

You may qualify if:
  • you were in receipt of the Earnings Loss Benefit;
or
  • your spouse/parent was in receipt of CFIS when they passed away.

How do I apply?

Your VAC case manager can assist you with your application.

If you do not have a case manager, the staff at any VAC office or Integrated Personnel Support Centre (IPSC) can assist you.

You can also fill out the application and mail it to us.

OR

If you are registered for My VAC Account, you can apply online now. If you aren’t registered, why wait? Register today.

Important Note
You need to apply for the CFIS within six months following the end of your Earnings Loss Benefit.
