Re: WHY???
I'm at a loss. Trying to be open-minded, and taking lots into consideration.
But I can not comprehend this.
A little observation of mine though... How come the last couple of weeks when this hit the news, the media has had his smiley picture with happy white teeth over and over again ?
Where the heck is his mugshot ? Because I'm sure he didn't make GQ quarterly in his past.
Just a thought....

Re: WHY???
Typical GOC Lieberal BS. Go after the service men and women who served their country. Our families charter rights were not violated during many long deployments. Being put into financial hardships, mother and father deployed at the same time. What a disgrace this JT gov't is to us. He will keep embarrassing us and continue to fight us in court. I guess he figures if he wears the goofy socks and takes lots of selfies, Canadians will forgive him for his injustices to veterans.

Re: WHY???
The "Every Canadian is protected by the Canadian Charter of Rights" is really going to be a hard sell for Trudeau.
At least now we can call Trudeau a hypocrite.
Ralph Goodale said on Friday that the court cost was up to $5 million dollars in lawyer fees with a slim chance to win against a terrorist. So why are the Libs still fighting the Equitas lawsuit in court while one of the plaintiffs is working in an Advisory Group for VAC? Unless there is another word other then hypocrite is the proper word to describe this man. Well at least know of one person in Canada he won't take a selfie with.
Hell even Harper knew when to throw in the towel in the SISIP lawsuit because of the cost of lawyer fees.

Veteran Blinded By Omar Khadr Says Trudeau Guilty Of Treason
Veteran Blinded By Omar Khadr Says Trudeau Guilty Of Treason
DAVID KRAYDEN July 09, 2017
The wounded warrior who was blinded by Omar Khadr’s grenade attack that killed Sgt. Chris Speer says Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau should be charged with treason.
In an interview with the Toronto Sun on Saturday, Layne Morris says Trudeau’s decision to reward the former al-Qaida terrorist with a formal apology and $10.5 million cash settlement feels “like a punch in the face.”
“I don’t see this as anything but treason,” said Morris. “It’s something a traitor would do. As far as I am concerned, Prime Minister Trudeau should be charged.”
Morris is also angry that Trudeau delivered the “compensation” money to Khadr in secret so that the settlement would be unknown to any U.S. court. Morris, along with Speer’s widow, Tabitha Speer, were awarded $134 million in a civil suit aimed against Khadr.
“It feels like a dirty deal to me,” the former U.S. Army special force sergeant said. Morris notes that Khadr was also removed from Guantanamo Bay in secret by then-president Barack Obama and sent to Canada.
“He sure gets special treatment,” Morris said, noting that the Khadr’s life was saved by American medics who could have left him to “die like a dog.”
Morris is bewildered that one of America’s closest allies would sanction a payoff to Khadr.
“We were fighting the terrorists. They were the bad guys. Something is really off here,” he said. “I can’t believe any government would get involved in something like this.”
“The fact is Chris Speer and myself were fighting with Canadians in Afghanistan. We were alongside the PPCLI [Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry]. There was a Canadian flag flying along with the American flag at our base there, so it’s quite a thing that now Canada is giving millions to a guy who would attack a compound where Canadians were serving.”

Rex Murphy: Trudeau skips the theme socks for his scheming Khadr apology
Rex Murphy: Trudeau skips the theme socks for his scheming Khadr apology
Rex Murphy
July 7, 2017
Three things mark the Khadr announcement. The government didn’t want to be associated with it. They wanted it done swiftly. And they didn’t want Trudeau on the same continent when the news broke
… and started like a guilty thing upon a fearful summons.
— Hamlet
How and when Canadians were let in on the Trudeau government’s lavish settlement and accompanying official apology to Omar Khadr are its most curious and telling elements. No cabinet minister, and certainly not Justin Trudeau, stepped before a bank of microphones and cameras to bring the good news to Canadians before it was a done deal. How unlike Trudeau to put a blanket over his good deeds — more usually he orders up another pair of billboard socks to mark such occasions. No socks for Khadr.
We learned of it from Ottawa’s scoop master, Robert Fife. Fife is a reporter, not a Liberal spokesman. No spokesman was provided for days. The word, as it were, just got out. And it’s surely a coincidence that it got out at the tail end of our Canada Day celebrations, and on the eve of morning of the American’s Fourth of July. Wedged in between competing fireworks, so to speak. Was there anyone in the Canadian government who thought this tendentious settlement was a good way to end our national birthday party and send a message to the Americans at the beginning of theirs? However we feel about Khadr’s various doings, the Americans are still more than a little sensitive on this score. Was the timing, then, incidentally or accidentally, a diplomatic shot in the ribs to the Americans, a touch of impishness or sly scorn towards Trumpian America?
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, left, holds up a pair of socks that he received as a gift from Kelly Ripa, centre, and Ryan Seacrest in Niagara Falls, Ontario on Monday, June 5, 2017.
The bells were still tolling for Canada’s birthday and Trudeau headed off to Ireland when the news was leaked. So he was conveniently across the sea and on another continent by the time people were shaking their heads over the vast cash award, all but immune to having to answer questions about it. The travelling press caravan did get one question to him, and his comment — it’s a magical piece of work — had more blarney in it than the famous stone itself: “There is a judicial process underway that has been underway for a number of years now and we are anticipating, like I think a number of people are, that that judicial process is coming to its conclusion.”
If this be transparency let us have mud. Clams are more open. If there is information in that statement, it is under armed guard and in witness protection. Drop the padding and what we have is this: there is a process, there has been a process, and Trudeau and an unspecified number of people think this process will end. If he had just added, “And a proof is a proof, and when you have a good proof, it’s proven” we could embed this glory right under the Gettysburg address in the quotation books.
No naming of Khadr. No mention of the dollar sum. No reference to the apology. No commiserating remarks for Tabitha Speer, the wife of the dead American medic. Equally stunning, Trudeau neglected to highlight its “diversity,” which for any Justin Trudeau statement is the equivalent of going to bed without saying your night prayers.
Omar Khadr.
On Thursday, we had the capper. Fife again — he is quickly becoming the Paul Revere of all Khadr news — gave us the revelations that the $10.5 million, tax free be it noted, had already been handed over. Process complete. A government famously so sluggish in so many areas — veterans’ treatment comes first to mind — went full Road Runner getting the cash to Khadr.
Three things mark the Khadr announcement. The government didn’t want in any visible way to be associated with it. They wanted it done swiftly and with maximum distraction. And they didn’t want Trudeau on the same continent when the news broke.
Why so coy, it must be asked? Why would Trudeau and his government, having done, as I am sure in later days they will emphatically insist, the right thing, the just thing, the principled thing, the Charter-compliant thing, be so shy of association with their own high righteousness?
Most likely because there are so many questions about the Khadr absolution and jackpot he doesn’t want to answer or cannot.
Premier Brad Wall.
Why the outlandish amount? Does not repatriation, removal from the American system of justice, and a full apology from the entire government of Canada signify a generous correction by the Canadian state of what it perceives as the wrongs done to Khadr?
What does he think is the response of Canadian soldiers, particularly veterans of Afghanistan, to this deal? I’d say they are furious. He owes the servicemen and women an accounting. If he is confident of the rightness of the award, the amount, the instant payment, and the state apology, he owes them his thinking on the matter. Not some jumbled vapourizing on process mumbled reluctantly over shamrocks and sock displays in Ireland.
Finally, the judicial process. Trudeau was slippery when he talked of “anticipating” the “judicial process is coming to its conclusion.” No such thing. He had amputated the judicial process when he made those remarks. Took it out of the courts and straight to lavish settlement. Premier Brad Wall made the point as well as any: “… there ought never be an offer to ‘settle.’ Some things are worth the legal fight … right to the end.”
There is as much politics as justice involved in the Khadr settlement. In fact, there’s much more. And the manner and timing of how it has been “resolved” is a straightline indication that the political dimension is at least as powerful as the judicial one. It’s summer now, and sunny days, but fall will come, with a good chance of a long winter too on this business.

Re: WHY???
So I'm watching the news and the excuse for paying him is that his charter rights were violated in Gitmo. They then showed Ahrer who was detained in Syria, not a terrorist, 3 Middle East reporters with Canadian citizenship detained and again paid for illegal detainment. They then showed Steven Truscott, a French Canadian who were released from prison after it was proved they did not murder the people they were accused of killing. Charter right violations. OK they are hanging their hat on charter violation.
Then they showed the two Canadians who were held captive in the Phillipines and beheaded because the GoC does not negotiate with terrorists. Then the very next news item is Trudeau at the G20 encouraging countries not to negotiate with terrorists.
Well I have to ask did the widows of the beheaded Canadians by terrorists have their charter rights violated because the GoC did nothing to try and save their innocent spouses? Spouses who no doubt were tortured.
We have the JTF and we couldn't figure out and attempt a rescue attempt? Isn't that a governments job?
Are we veterans not being tortured by our own government of failed promises to improve our live. Isn't that a violations of our charter rights?
Has the issue of the parents of single CF soldiers killed in the line of duty not receiving the NVC death benefits? There has been a challenge of the charter by the parents of Cpl Matthew Dinning were almost successful but at the last minute they found an ex girlfriend and she got the benefit...case dismissed. Veterans groups can't challenge the charter because it has not happened to them.
Charter rights sure seem to be very fickle rules....even more then VAC rules it seems.

Halifax veterans speak out against Omar Khadr settlement
July 7, 2017
By Jennifer Grudic
A group of veterans gathered at Grand Parade in downtown Halifax on Friday to speak out against the settlement paid to Omar Khadr.
A group of veterans gathered in downtown Halifax on Friday in protest of the $10.5 million settlement awarded to former Guantanamo Bay prisoner Omar Khadr.
Jay Tofflemire served almost 29 years in the Royal Canadian Navy. He said his son served two tours in Afghanistan and is now dealing with serious mental health issues.
“I’m not saying that my son deserves $10.5 million — he deserves to be looked after, he deserves to be heard and taken care of.”
He said he, like many Canadians, does not support the federal government’s apology to Khadr.
Roland Lawless, director of veteran outreach with the Society for Atlantic Heroes said he believes the Canadian government dropped the ball and that Canadian taxpayers shouldn’t be footing the bill.
“I don’t think that it’s fair to our Canadian soldiers and sailors and air people that went over there to fight and then had to dispatch child soldiers. And how they have to live the rest of their life with that memory.”
Lawless, a veteran himself, said the government needs to focus more on providing support to Canadian soldiers in need of mental health supports.
“It’s just as bad as anything that Omar Khadr went through, anywhere, in my eyes.”
Veterans UN-NATO member and Vimy medal recipient Gus Cameron said he is disgusted to see the government has moved forward with this type of settlement. He’d like to see more emphasis placed on allocating funds in support of veterans falling through the cracks.
“There’s veterans that served this country for 30-plus years that are trying to get the money together to get a wheelchair or a specialist to look at their back,” he said.
“They’re taking their own lives. We’re losing brothers and sisters every day.”

Re: WHY???
Just when you thought this issue couldn't get any slimier...
So the Libs have paid him. They have stated the apology quickly. Why? Because they have now washed their hands of this.
When the Libs got wind of the widow of the US serviceman petitioning the Ontario Supreme Court to block payment to Kahdr they went into panic mode.
They flew 3 cabinet ministers into Ottawa to hold the presser to apologize and pay Kahdr before the widow's court document kicked in to block the payment.
Now she has to sue Kahdr in Canada which has completely different civil court rules compared to the States.
The Liberals are nothing but slimy sick basterds by doing this to a widow just to make this very sick situation go away. And they are slimy basterds because they did this a week after the HoC stood for the summer break. This would have been a hell of an argument on the floor of the House. Just look at the comments they are saying about the Conservatives and putting all the blame on them. When in f'n reality Kahdr was interrogated in Gitmo under Chretien's watch!
I don't care if you Liberal lovers want to attack me for what I am saying because by you attacking me only shows you support a political party paying a terrorist, a Canadian born terrorist, $10.5 million for killing a medic of the US Army. A Canadian born terrorist who's parents threw away their Canadian passports SIX times, publicly stating they will have their children and grand children kill Canadian infidels.
This is the most embarrassing moment for Canada on the world stage.

I hear you LostTrucker.
Been trying to make sense of this. V. hard.
All I can come up with is that the GoC colluded with the USA
for taking him to Gbay as he was a Canadian citizen.
But that still don't cut it. Not by a country fracking mile.

Re: WHY???
when the enemy who killed an ally and fought your own troops gets treated way better than your Veterans...something is seriously wrong!
still fighting your Veterans in court, meanwhile quickly settle with the enemy and give him $10,500,000???? I am so disgusted by this it physically sickens my stomach!
That little Ba**ard should of been given the "option"........the one in a 30 round magazine!!
Vets going homeless and going hungry and terrorists becoming millionaires....baffles the mind how this can happen
For the very first time in my life I am nearly ashamed to be Canadian..........I was the proudest Canadian......but each gov't whittled away at that pride.....and the Trudeau "govt" and his appointed muppets takes the cake by far!!
C'mon election day!!!!!
