Read the following closely, it sounds to me like someone's trying to sell something that is not worth much.

Government of Canada details enhanced support for Veterans and their families

Budget 2017 addresses financial security, education and family support

SAINT-JEAN-SUR-RICHELIEU, QC, Aug. 24, 2017 /CNW/ - Canadians and the Government of Canada acknowledge the immense contribution in service to our country of Veterans and their families. It is critical that members of the Canadian Armed Forces and Canada's Veterans know that when they sign up to serve and protect Canada, the people of Canada will support them.

Sherry Romanado, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, met with Canadian Armed Forces members and their families at the Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu today to provide details on changes to VAC programs and benefits that will do more to support Canada's Veterans and their families.

Budget 2017 builds on the investments made in Budget 2016 with new measures that will recognize the important role of caregivers, help more families, support mental health and pay for the education and training Veterans need to find the work they want in their post-military lives.

Budget 2017 highlights include the expansion of the Veteran Family Program across all 32 MFRCs in Canada, a new Caregiver Benefit that will put $1,000 per month directly into the pockets of those who care for Veterans in their homes, and an Education and Training benefit that will provide for up to $80,000 in financial support for Veterans in achieving their education and future post-military employment goals through college, university or technical education.

As part of today's announcement, Parliamentary Secretary Romanado reaffirmed the Government of Canada's mandate commitments to do more for Veterans, provide additional financial benefits tailored to their needs and deliver a higher standard of service and care that ensures a "one Veteran, one standard" approach is upheld.

"When a member serves, the whole family serves along with them. Families and caregivers are the backbone of the support Veterans need during their service, their transition to post-military life and afterwards. Their mental health and well-being are a priority and I am proud of the investments we have made to ensure their success in post-military life."

The Honourable Kent Hehr, Minister of Veterans Affair and Associate Minister of the Department of National Defense.

"A Military Family Resource Centre is the perfect backdrop for a meeting such as this. The move in Budget 2017 to open up MFRCs to Veterans and their families has been very well received and I don't believe there is a better setting to meet and share some of what the Government of Canada is doing on their behalf, as well as to listen first-hand to their concerns about those things that may need improvement."

Sherry Romanado, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of the Department of National Defence

It seems to be what I am hearing as well.
A straight out broken promise like this can not be a realistic approach,
to solving the injustice between the NVC and the PA.
Passing the injustice back and forth, meanwhile the right thing/solution is right there and easily can be implemented.
There is no magic wand solution.
No kidding.

I'm guessing they will just repeat the same old mandate speech he always does.....and pat themselves on the back on the whole "More Staff" crap (even though it made no difference as they are more behind than ever).  I'm sure its not new changes....just the ones that they already done and keep bragging about

Pinger I hear what your saying and also agree but unfortunately I don't think were ever going to get a Minister that is going to take the time to understand our file in enough detail to recognize the intent of the bureaucrats, the unjust of the NVC compared to the old act and that this status quo of gap fixing that will not fix the overhaul problem within our file. Perhaps we will someday get lucky and get a Minister with enough smarts and leadership to stand up to the bureaucrats and finally take full positive control of our file. Perhaps.

That article makes me want to throw up.

Now I'm really openminded to other media slants, but this MVA
has a track record that has NOTHING to do with our file.
Jack squat... JT should have shuffled him at least a year ago imo.

Did he run out of VaC offices to re-open?
How about opening a brand spanking new one where it is needed the very most ?

And if Enbridge is hosting this event, could not Kent Hehr vet some local homeless vets for a really good meal let alone a fracking coffee or his time of day ?

Our MVA ain't close to anything federally vet-centric,
...just his riding, Calgary/Alberta -centric

Absolutely appalling BS

July 21, 2017 Update on what the Minister of Veterans Affairs is doing

LONDON, England, July 21, 2017 /CNW/ - On 19 and 20 July 2017, Minister for Defence People and Veterans Tobias Ellwood welcomed delegations from the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to the International Ministerial Conference on Veterans' Issues at the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

Mr Ellwood, The Honourable David Shulkin, US Secretary of Veterans' Affairs, The Honourable Kent Hehr, Canadian Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, The Honourable Dan Tehan, Australian Minister for Veterans' Affairs and Defence Personnel, Ms Bernadine Mackenzie, the New Zealand Head of Veterans' Affairs, and delegates from all nations came together under a shared commitment to their defence and Veteran communities to discuss Veterans' mental health and transition from military to civilian life.

Delegates were honoured to be hosted at the Royal Hospital Chelsea and to be shown the grounds by the Chelsea Pensioners. Over the course of the two-day conference, the five countries identified many overlapping themes and mutual challenges, including for some nations addressing and treating post-traumatic disorder, rates of suicide and homelessness among Veterans, barriers to mental health care, alternative therapies, Veteran-centric approaches to the provision of services, and early intervention.

Delegates had an opportunity to hear from leading expert, Professor Sir Simon Wessely on Veterans' mental health challenges and were taken by the extent of the research and the key facts and findings. Delegates also visited the Veterans charity organization 'Stoll' and had an opportunity to speak with United Kingdom Veterans about their experiences transitioning to civilian life.

Delegates recognised that to face these challenges and progress reforms it was essential that evidence based research and data informed policy decisions and implementation. Ministers heard from clinical experts how myths about Veterans' mental health were damaging efforts to encourage Veterans to seek help as early as possible. They agreed that efforts must continue on improving the provision of information to the Veterans' community and to transform the delivery of support and services to the defence and Veteran communities in all five nations.

Delegates agreed to establish a network between the five nations to share and undertake research and emerging data, confirming their continuing commitment to collaborate on strategies that recognise, support, and care for the defence and Veteran communities across the five countries. The initial research that will be undertaken will look at risk assessments and prevention strategies for Veterans at risk of suicide.

Ministers thanked the United Kingdom for hosting the meeting and agreed to meet again in Australia in October 2018 to continue the work began at this meeting and to share the outcomes of research undertaken.

He'd rather deal with cow crap, then deal with veterans. Shows where we rank in his priorities.

Either that or he's trying to lean how to make even more hot air.
