Veterans Affairs Canada publishes results of National Survey 2017

Veterans were surveyed to measure effectiveness of services and benefits and assess overall well-being.

OTTAWA, Sept. 11, 2017 /CNW/ - Canada's Veterans deserve recognition and respect for their service. Canadians and the Government of Canada appreciate their sacrifices, which is why it is important to reach out to Veterans and their families to truly understand their needs and be able to assist them when and where they need it most.

In February and March of 2017, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) conducted a survey of 1,508 War Service Veterans, Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and Royal Canadian Mounted Police members and Veterans, as well as survivors receiving Veterans Affairs Canada services and benefits.

The VAC National Survey 2017 showed a high level of satisfaction with VAC benefits and services, a strong dedication and respect from VAC staff, as well as highlighting some areas in need of improvement. The full results of the survey are published on the Library and Archives Canada website. A national survey will be conducted every two years in order to continue to measure the health and well-being of Veterans and how well VAC programs support them. The results of the VAC National Survey were analysed in order to identify areas in need of improvements. Further analysis is required in order to determine how best to address concerns and find the most effective way to improve VAC's services and benefits.

"The results of the VAC National Survey 2017 show that while the department is meeting the needs of the majority of Veterans, there is still room for improvement. The feedback we received from this survey will help us adapt our services and benefits to continue to better serve Veterans and their families."
The Honourable Seamus O'Regan, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of the Department of National Defence

I would say that the majority of the surveys were conducted over the phone with no one on the other end...as those percentages seem awfully high.

I have never seen an annual report with a "negative" outcome. It's a BS survey that is always rigged.

VAC sends questionnaires to people who rarely call VAC or have a One and Done application. Of the 1508 vets surveyed I bet less then 150 were seriously injured to give VAC the 80% positive review.

If VAC was serious with these surveys they would evenly distribute the survey of mild, moderate, severe injured vets. This survey could be broken down in 4 segments. Each group results. Then an overall result.

Until then VAC can take their survey results and blow them up the bureaucrats rear ends which only puffs their chests....while vets are still getting the royal screw job.

Honestly, I've done one of these survey's in the past, and the questions they ask, are geared towards a certain outcome.

Like for disability award, they would give you three options. A)Keep the Lump sum award as is. B) keep the same dollar amount, but spread out over X number of years, with one large payment every year, or C) Keep the same dollar amount, but spread out over X number years, in monthly installments.

Then they would say that 80% say that they want to keep the Lump sum award, over a monthly PA pension, even though they never gave the Veteran the option of saying they would prefer the PA pension.

These are the types of tactics brought forward by the bureaucrats to the public in defending and advertising the progress that is being done on the Veterans file. Do these tactics work? Absolutely! To the average citizen including the Minister of Veterans Affairs this looks real good, it makes the government look like they are taking care of it's disabled Veterans and enhancing benefits for the disabled Veterans moving forward. On Monday Sept 11, 2017 they announce Enhanced support for Veterans and their families, http://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/government-of-canada-details-enhanced-support-for-veterans-and-their-families-643738333.html On the very same day, they announce the Results of National Survey 2017, http://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/veterans-affairs-canada-publishes-results-of-national-survey-2017-643785493.html

The truth of the matter is all that is being said and done by the government with respect to the Veterans file does not compare in fairness to the pre 2006 pension act. It is true there's more graphs and numbers to look at and compare, but it will take more than that to inline the New Veterans Charter with the old pension act.

What about our new Minister? What can he do to turn things around? The answer is really quite simple, the Veterans file is being run by the bureaucrats, the Minister of Veterans Affairs signs off on what the bureaucrats bring forward, until a Minister of Veterans Affairs starts running the file by looking and acting on what Veterans themselves are asking for, along with what is being brought forward by the bureaucrats, in other words getting more involved in the profundity of our file and making decisions that reflect real changes that are needed to bring these NVC Veterans inline with the long term security from the old pension act, things will remain in the status quo mode. Until this takes place, and only the Minister can make this happen, the Minister is completely useless in the position he or she holds. We all need to understand these facts in order to reestablish unity among the Veterans and Veteran groups, understanding this and the tactics used by the government should be the focus point on implementing new ways to approach the government in advocating for improvements that will put the NVC Veterans back inline with those from the old pension act. In other words if Veterans and Veteran groups do not change tactics, nothing will change and the government will continue to win in giving the illusion to the whole Country that they are looking after it's Veterans.

It is the bureaucrats that are looking after themselves, this is where the problem lies, this is where the focus needs to be, on the bureaucrats.

Seamus just told a whole audience of bureaucrats that he has their back, good sign for the bureaucrats, not so good for the disabled Veterans. It's statements such as this that hints of what to expect from our new Minister.
