Re: Lump Payments made to SISIP
The treatment of repayments works like this....you received an amount from SISIP, when your VAC was increased or granted you paid them back with retro money, so it zeros out, or it is like you never received that money in the first place... it is now treated as if it was clawed back from the first day you were entitled to it, SISIP will pay you the total amount that was clawed backed, minus the taxes and fees.
I don't believe you would need a receipt.. .they have your entire file with what was paid, clawed back and repaid.

Re: Lump Payments made to SISIP
Joan, when you pay lump sums back to SISIP it is deducted off your income for that year, so you get the taxes back on that income... if it is less than your total income for the year, your T4A will show the reduced amount (my dh T4A showed income of $1000. from them one year because of paybacks) If it is more than your income you will get a letter from them telling you the total you can deduct off you total income for the year.(we finished paying them back in Jan and were zero-sum at that time so this also happened to my dh).
So because of this, the money will be taxed as if it is new income, and yes you will pay legal fees because it is part of what was recovered in the lawsuit

Re: Lump Payments made to SISIP
Will the money you get back from sisip be retaxed and will the legal fees be charged?

Peter Driscoll has stated that all monies sent to SISIP because of overpayment will be included in the settlement. You'll get you money back.

Lump Payments made to SISIP
When I recieved my pension from VAC, SISIP said I had to pay back the money they had given me monthly.
I recieved $ 10K retroactive ammount from my VAC pension and SISIP said I had to give it to them.
Thinking I had no choice at the time, I did it.
So, Will this be considered in the class action suit also?
Will I loose $10K again?
Do I have to provide proof of the monies I payed back to SISIP?
If so, who can I send my reciept to, so it will be considered?
Thank-you for this great site, It has answered many of my other questions.
