Minister why don't you tell the damn bureaucrats to stop scrutinizing veteran applications to the f'n placement of the staple or a poor cover sheet!!!  Then maybe...just f'n maybe the application process wouldn't be so damn difficult and prejudiced!

Oh yeah your first meeting with them in PEI you promised to "watch their backs"...never mind carry on intimidating veterans from doing a job in the public service with competency.

Okay this is my first post since being kicked out by Trooper.

This in my opinion is the most important part of the jigsaw puzzle with Veterans Affairs Canada.   Fix the wait problem and fix it now.   Veterans conditions only get worse as the time goes on with case loads extending well past a year.  They protect their jobs and the above post is correct.  The minister says he has the backs of the workers that can’t even keep up with the work load.   They give bonus to a broken system that rewards bad work ethic with cash bonus to upper level management.

If I was king they would be fired!   Time for a new system that actually works in their own guide lines.
16 weeks, would that be to much to ask for?

Well, I think we need to see more than promises. We need to see action.

Minister O'Regan announces an initiative to support Veteran hiring in the Public Service and issues a corporate challenge

NEWS PROVIDED BY
Veterans Affairs Canada

TORONTO, Sept. 28, 2017 /CNW/ - Canada's Veterans and service men and women are known around the world for their skills, abilities and expertise. The Government of Canada is committed to helping Veterans and releasing Canadian Armed Forces personnel find meaningful employment to help ensure a successful transition to post-military life.

During the Veterans Career Summit at the Invictus Games in Toronto, the Honourable Seamus O'Regan, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence issued a challenge to corporate Canada and the Public Service to recognize the valuable skills Veterans have acquired through the Canadian Armed Forces and to help welcome them into the civilian workforce.

Minister O'Regan also announced the launch of the Veterans in the Public Service Unit (VPSU) while addressing attendees of the Career Summit. This new unit within Veterans Affairs was formed to help Veterans navigate the Federal Public Service hiring process. The VPSU also works with managers from across the public service, in promoting the training, experiences and skill-sets of Canadian Veterans for employment within the Public Service.

"While in service to Canada, Veterans have gained the skills, experience and leadership that make them ideal employees. I encourage and challenge corporate Canada and the Public Service of Canada to recognize the value of the skills that our brave men and women have acquired, and commit to joining us in our efforts to encourage the hiring of Canada's Veterans."
The Honourable Seamus O'Regan, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence

  • The VPSU was formed in 2017 and is the first dedicated service of its kind in Canada to assist Veterans navigating the public service hiring process.

  • The VPSU will help Veterans understand and make the most of their entitlements under the Veterans Hiring Act and express their skills, military education and experience in terms that public service hiring managers will understand.

  • The VPSU will help Veterans with the technical skills of applying for a job, including: editing their resumes and cover letters; understanding the terminology and application process for applying to Public Service jobs; and help translating military skills and experience to public service hiring managers.

  • Veterans in the Public Service Unit responsibilities include: educating Veterans on the public service hiring process; assisting Veterans in applying for jobs in the public service; connecting Veterans and federal employers; and, advocating for Veterans and the skills they bring.

  • The VPSU will work with Veterans to provide possible Public Service opportunities that may be a match to their skills, education and desired location.

  • The VPSU is made up of Veterans who understand the needs of a releasing Veteran looking for meaningful employment.

  • The five person VPSU team is funded from VAC's existing budget.

  • Veterans who have any questions or require assistance can contact the VPSU by sending a message through My VAC Account or by calling the Department at 1-866-522-2122.

Minister O'Regan, what is the status on the lifelong pension? ? ? ? ?

From the mandate letter to the Minister of Veterans Affairs, (Re-establish lifelong pensions as an option for our injured veterans)

Minister O'Regan, your predecessor failed to deliver on this particular promise, are you also going to fail on delivering the promise of reinstating the lifelong pension? ? ? ? ?

From what I have seen thus far from our new Minister, nothing will change, the bureaucrats will continue to run the Veterans file.

A new post-military employment initiative will help veterans find work in the Canadian public service, the Minister of Veterans Affairs will announce Thursday.

The Star has learned that Seamus O’Regan will announce a Veterans in the Public Service Unit at the Invictus Games Veterans Career Summit Thursday morning.

The dedicated team will “lend a helping hand” to veterans navigating the Canadian public service hiring process.

“At the end of the day, what we want to have happen here is to have our veterans recognized for the incredible work experience they have, the credentials that they have and the contribution that they can make to the public service,” O’Regan told the Star.

The new initiative will act as a liaison between the public sector and veterans, and help veterans adapt to civilian employment and hiring.

For some veterans, leaving the military means leaving an industry they’ve known for their entire professional lives.

“So any hand that we can give them isn’t just a win for them,” O’Regan said. “Frankly, I believe firmly that it’s a win for the Public Service of Canada.”

O’Regan said veterans can make an enormous contribution to the public service, and have an “incredible” amount to offer.

The announcement will launch the Invictus Game two-day career summit. Veterans can meet with more than 20 companies and career counselors at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel Osgoode Ballroom.

“Employment is a real big determinant of how those who have come back from service and who are transitioning out actually are able to move on with their lives,” said Michael Burns, CEO of the Invictus Games.

Employment opportunities in Toronto, Canada and around the world will be advertised to Invictus Games competitors, their spouses and other veterans.

Hiring veterans has become a legacy for the Commissionaires, a security company that employs 6,000 veterans and will attend Thursday’s summit.

Meaningful employment is beneficial for veterans, but “they’re also a huge value to us,” said Tom Prins, the CEO of the Commissionaires’ Great Lakes Division.

“Just the leadership skills they bring, their dedication to their job, their decision-making; they’re phenomenal employees,” he said.
