There was no charge on the prescription, just on confusion on the dispensing fee, inadvertent, but to be corrected soon enough.

Prescription coverage fee Empty Re: Prescription coverage fee

Post by puddleduk2 Wed 11 Sep 2013, 16:25

Update,

Called VAC 1-866 line today, no problem or issue on their end,

VAC requested that I call into the pharmacy that gave out the filled prescription and have them phone blue cross to sort it out on the fee I paid, which should have been covered at 100% as a "B" client,

I called the pharmacy, first person I talked with looked at my file, first said I should have paid more, which was retracted seconds later, with an apology, saying if the person at the counter didn't know why after I asked 'why a fee' they should have asked someone, anyone, not just process it,

they told me nothing should have been charged as they have a standing contract with VAC/blue cross on dispensing fee's, which I had already paid a position of, but will get back when I go in with the receipt today or tomorrow, my pharmacy is just over 60km away, so it's not a everyday excursion.

When every I end up paying for medications that are covered for me by VAC I just submit a claim to Blue Cross for the cost - I am tired of arguing any more

I also have no problems getting my meds if prescribed by my doctor and if vac says they won't cover it they at the pharmacy will give me what was prescribed and then they contact the powers to be and sort it out usually within a couple of weeks I get a letter from blue cross saying they will cover meds nothing is paid by myself.

You got that right Rex if VAC won't cover it I do not get it because I ain't paying out of pocket instead I go to my doc and ask him to contact VAC and sort it out I have had little to no problems with this and it actually helps VAC update prescription requirements

Prescription coverage fee Empty Re: Prescription coverage fee

I think it all depends on the medication. I went to see a pain specialist, who gave me a cortisone shot in my back, and then a prescription to restock his supply, equaling the amount in my injection, that could be filled at the pharmacy attached to his office. VAC refused to pay for the drug up front but said that I would be reimbursed once the receipt was sent in, and I have full A's and B's across the board. The shot didn't offer any relief, so it was only the one time deal, or I would have sought further permission to pay these costs up front.

In fact, VAC's whole attitude towards pain medication seems a bit screwed to me. First I had to get special permission to get them to pay for the long term use of dilaudid, then again for the slow release version, which both are are used almost daily. Then when my wife told my Dr that the dilaudid leaves me loopy half the time, she tried giving me Nucynta (sp?), but VAC refused to pay, and I had to have my doctor write a letter saying why she wanted to prescribe it, as the prescription itself wasn't enough, and I'm still waiting for a decision. You would think that after taking one pain med or other daily since 2002, three knee surgeries (and more to come), spinal surgery, being deemed TPI, receiving VAC paid mobility scooter, walker, lift chair and a hospital bed, that they would realize that my body is fracked up, and at 41, things can only get worse, and along with that comes the requirement for stronger pain meds.

Prescription coverage fee Empty Re: Prescription coverage fee

When I was utilizing my VAC prescription coverage all the time at >1800 per month it was at no surcharge, now twice in one year I've received a surcharge for a non brand name generic prescription..

It didn't make much sense the first time to send it into VAC to cover and reimburse thru blue cross,

however this second one will be sent in as it is more than the cost of a stamp and the three minutes for them to process it,

almost a make work project instead of processing it on the first go.

I will be calling to ask 'why again' tomorrow about the surcharge, and will update as I find out more..

Prescription coverage fee Empty Prescription coverage fee

Post by puddleduk2 Tue 10 Sep 2013, 18:53

Inquiring if anyone else has been paying a portion of the VAC prescription fees' directly to the pharmacy they pick up their medications at,

I am, or at least was covered at 100% previously, but haven't picked up or been prescribed anything substantial in quite a few years, only special non listed items needed a write up from the Doctor(s) to be covered at 100% as a "B" client.

The last time a pharmacy charged me a fee, $0.45 to be exact, I stopped using that pharmacy, the cost of a stamp and the administration to return the amount to me by direct deposit was less than the cost of just paying the fee.

Today's fee wasn't over the top <$20.00, however when I asked about who was billed for the remainder, they said VAC would only cover the first part of my coverage, the rest was on me, nothing from my CF pharmacy plan was touched that I pay into.

In the absence of knowing what changes have happened the last few years avoiding all and any meds on my part, does anyone know how it works now?
