Re: ATTENDANCE ALLOWANCE - QUESTION
VAC staff will not tell you what you are entitled for benefits, they are not allowed, heard this from a disgruntled worker before she retired,it took 13 years to get all my benefits and i get all of them now.......so always apply for every SINGLE benefits out the for veterans because they wont give it to you........i just helped a vet get on the rehab program that he never heard about,or theTPI or PIA and PIAS (acryo's changed to something new now)and he was out since 2006 and thought he was getting his max benefits ,thats a couple $1000 a month he has been missing, but at least now he is on the road to get his pension working proper for him...............so APPLY APPLY APPLY and the appeal and appeal if you have too

Re: ATTENDANCE ALLOWANCE - QUESTION
czerv wrote:If one has only Disability Awards then no possibility to apply for Attendance Allowance (according to the documents?) Am I reading it correctly?
Thanks
Correct czerv, in that case you would only be entitled to the Family Caregiver Relief Benefit.
Here is info that would relate to those who are both NVC and PA.
Do you have both a disability award and a disability pension of 1% or more?
If you have both a disability award and a disability pension of 1% or more, you are not eligible for the Family Caregiver Relief Benefit, but you may be eligible for the Attendance allowance.

czerv wrote:I just found out about this Attendance Allowance after reading some posts here. Wow, if I am not mistaken, I should be getting it. MY CM never mentioned it (she was hired about 6 months ago).
Read somewhere that 'if 100% disability' one automatically qualifies.
If someone is more that 100% from various disabilities then there should be no problem with assessment/application.
Any thoughts/comments about the issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
The Attendance Allowance is for those 1% or more from the Pension Act.
The Family Caregiver Relief Benefit is for those who are only NVC.
You cannot be approved for both.

Re: ATTENDANCE ALLOWANCE - QUESTION
Maybe if we started offing the ones that talk down to us something will happen.nthe call is recorded so as long as we are truthful they can do nothing against us. We only have their first names anyway. I too have been told that having a wife means she should be doing some of the things that I have been seeking help with like toe nail cutting due to the fact I cannot bend to do it myself. I sure am hoping I become one of those that VAC treats well soon, so I can live with some form of dignity before I die.

Re: ATTENDANCE ALLOWANCE - QUESTION
Rifleman,
If you ever feel that someone is giving you the wrong info, which unfortunately does happen, hang up and make like the conversation did not happen.
Don't get discouraged from hearing something from someone who has absolutely no clue of what their talking about, if I had a dollar for every time that happen to me, I would be a little richer than what I am today.
My friend, apply for everything that's available to you, if denied, re - apply - or appeal.
The benefits are out there for everyone, and don't allow anyone to discourage from applying for anything you feel you deserve.

Re: ATTENDANCE ALLOWANCE - QUESTION
The attendance allowance is given, if you, the Veteran, requires any assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) from somebody else, and that can be anybody else. Spouse, child, a bum off the street, or a nurse, it does not matter . It is lumped together with your PA pension, into a single tax free monthly payment. If you do require a nurse from VON to come in, VAC will pay for that directly, and is completely separate from the AA. I know I get AA, and I have VON coming in every few weeks for foot care, and VAC is billed directly by them.

Re: ATTENDANCE ALLOWANCE - QUESTION
Just received application for AA and vac has already had a nurse call me to come to my house for a appointment date for a assessment I have two questions for input on this first question is my wife is my primary caregiver am I sill able to continue with application process ? 2nd question is how does the payment work is it monthly or do you only receive payment if you have a nurse come in to help and yes I do meet more then one criteria. I have asked the same questions to vac but have gotten many different answers.

Re: ATTENDANCE ALLOWANCE - QUESTION
No problem their rigger, it could be a case of misunderstanding between those who were told this and the ones who gave out that info to them - or it could even be a case of someone given them the wrong information as we all know to well this has happened in the past.
Good on you for looking out for them.
