Fallen Soldiers- Europe Empty Fallen Soldiers- Europe

Post by Teentitan Thu 10 Feb 2011, 12:16

We are interested in hearing stories about someone you knew or may have heard of; Nova Scotians, possibly a family member, who was killed during WWI or WWII. If the individual is buried in a Commonwealth War Cemetery in Europe then we would like to hear their story. We want to remember them as part of a 1 hour documentary titled Fallen Soldiers – Europe
The intention of this project is to broaden the appreciation of the human contribution and to those chosen their specific contribution.
Most Nova Scotians are aware of the Vimy Ridge Memorial or the recently built D-Day memorial in Normandy. But most know very little about the Commonwealth cemeteries that exist in Europe which memorialize those soldiers who were not brought back to Canada after World War I and World War II. Each cemetery is powerful and unique, and each has their own stories to tell.
These cemeteries, created and maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), are permanent memorial sites. Distinguished and tranquil, these memorials were created to honor the fallen; however, each individual grave also serves as a reminder to the living of the terrible human cost of war.
Fallen Soldiers - Europe is a documentary about some of these remarkable sites. The program will weave elements of a historical documentary with modern-day scenes of the cemeteries while also telling a few of the heroic stories of individual Nova Scotian soldiers buried at each location. Each cemetery’s peaceful beauty along with the personal stories that capture the horrors of war will combine for an insightful glimpse of each location.
The documentary will move chronologically through some of the battles from both world wars of the 20th century. Most of the cemeteries are located on or near the major battlefields of each war. The narrative will provide a brief history of the battles and operations that took place in the areas where the cemeteries are located. A few stories of the individual Nova Scotian soldiers buried at each cemetery will be profiled as a reminder of the courage and unselfish service that each soldier provided to their country and their fellow comrades.
