Canadian peacekeepers feeling 'helpless' to act could face PTSD

Agreed propat, there is no sense in deploying troops on a Peacekeeping operation if they can't defend themselves and non-combatants. I'm sure General Dallaire would agree.

yup the ROEs have historically been pretty fracked up on peacekeeping missions up to and including not being allowed to protect yourself or those around you in an appropriate fashion . one would hope they fix this and AT MINIMUM have the legal ability to react accordingly to threats and perceived threats .
when the ROEs are so retarded to the point whoever is giving the morning ROE briefing always adds at the end how you are allowed to protect your life under CANADIAN LAW it causes the obvious problems of self protection that leads to troops saying frack the rules using quotes such as " its better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6 " and quite rightly so but now your on that slippery slope where some troops start picking and choosing their own rules witch can lead to other completely different problems .
not saying this WILL happen but I can tell ya with complete certainty IT HAS happened in the past .
making the ROE,s clear is very important for sure but they must be fair as well . if you cant get on a mission with ROE,s that will allow you to protect yourself in those particular conflict zones AT LEAST as well as you can here in Canada walking down the street then DO NOT go on a mission.

Our troops must be allowed to engage. Otherwise, it'll be Rwanda all over again.
