As the CSAT Forum Master at VVi I get some really good questions from subscribers looking for answers. Well this one was a lot of fun.

Here is the link for complete details of CBI 211

I discovered that the single most important thing to remember about these Enhanced Benefits is you have to be a member of the CF or the Reserves to receive any of these benefits.

So if you are going to be released because of loss of limbs and you need your house modified it has to be completed before your release date.

If your spouse is going to school to enhance her education for a better job funding from the CF will cease on your release date. The CF is assuming Veterans Affairs will just automatically pick up the funding for your spouse. BEWARE this is a very dangerous benefit! The CF has not taken into consideration the rules for spousal education under the New Veterans Charter (NVC). The vet has to be declared totally disabled and not fit for vocational training before the spouse can use the education benefits offered by the NVC. So before your spouse starts school make sure you talk to a Veterans Affairs Case Manager first. That way you and your spouse can figure out if you will be able to pay “out of pocket” to finish your spouse’s education.

If your spouse has completed any education and it provided a better job and you are still a member of the CF or Reserves you can submit for reimbursement. This Upgrade Benefit is payable for expenses incurred between 7 October 2001 and 31 March 2011 if the member claims the expenses before 31 March 2012

If you have any questions about the Enhanced Benefits you can call 1-800-883-6094 to ask your question. They will provide you with the answer and information to where the nearest JPSU or IPSC is. They will tell you what forms you need and how to go about filling them out.

Remember the golden rule when dealing with a CF policy…the only stupid question is the question you do not ask.

I hope this helps our still serving Reserve members and Regular members of the Royal Canadian Air Force, Royal Canadian Navy and the Canadian Army.
