Thanks Wild thing. I did check that website but could not find answers to my questions. I think I will take your advice and go for it.

go for it link attached.Newf wrote:Reassessment of EIA

I was awarded a Grade 5 EIA last year. I attempted to return to work part time then gradually going back to full time hours in the Fall of 2018. Unfortunately after four weeks, my medical conditions became worse, I went off sick again and now I can no longer work. I have made the decision to take a medical discharge.
Should I be applying for a reassessment of my EIA?
Is it possible to loose my grade 5 EIA as a result of a reassessment?
Thoughts or suggestions?

Re: Exceptional Incapacity Allowance
No, if you get the CIA, you are ineligible for the EIA. And if you are getting the EIA, then you are ineligible for the CIA. I was hoping that they would eventually extend the CIAS criteria, to include EIA recipients, but that's definitely not going to happen now.

Re: Exceptional Incapacity Allowance
if someone is 100% disability and determined DEC and gets the CIA and CIAS, can they also apply for EIA?bigrex wrote:Unfortunately, the legislation was written so that if you are getting, or have gotten the EIA, you are excluded from getting the CIA. But I know that some people, including the OVO, were talking about possibly changing the supplement so that it can be granted to both CIA and EIA recipients. Personally, I wish they would just scrap the EIA altogether, and give everyone the CIA, and the supplement if DEC. It would be far fairer, because even with tax, the CIA along with the supplement is more money than just the EIA alone, which also does not take into account for getting injured earlier in your career.

Re: Exceptional Incapacity Allowance
I am DEC and just found out that my CIA and CIA allowance application was declined. I think it is because i already receive EIA.
maybe i am looking at this wrong, i know one is tax free other is not. in the benefit of the veteran would a move to have EIA stopped and request for CIA and CIA allowance?
i one better than the other? Any advise ? i still have time to appeal the decision
Had the EIA before DEC so i applied for he next level of EIA, also declined..

Regarding application to have your EIA grade level increased, the answer is yes you can apply for an increase.
Regarding other benefits, you may want to take a look at the Benefits Navigator located in the VAC Benefits category, posted as a Sticky.

Re: Exceptional Incapacity Allowance
czerv,
Correct, you cannot receive both the EIA and PIA.
The disability pension and disability award EIA is for those who were on the pension act and rolled into the NVC and the conditions total 98% or more.
