The government agencies recognizes and supports the diagnoses given by psychologists....Psychologiest have more power than a family doctor when it comes to mental illness. A family doctor is great for fixing the body and handling out medication. But when it comes to giving diagnosed and filling out report on mental illness, psychologist is the best person to have on your-side👍
I would rather live in my van and save tons of money but my husbands is a DIVA and needs a house! Lol
I agree,
A Psychologist, OR specialist is your best avenue when applying for benefits dealing with mental illness.
Specialist is also Ideal for any benefits you are applying for, some or most are real good at write ups, and they are harder to disqualify coming from a Specialist.
Family doctor works also, but a lot are limited in the support they provide, they are overloaded with patients. If your lucky enough to have one, and one who supports you in obtaining benefits, then you are in a fair position.
One piece of advice I will give is if anyone who feels that their Physician / Specialist are not supporting them, don't use them to fill out any forms. Your better off waiting until you find the support before sending out forms to obtain benefits.

I actually chuckled whenever I read that you'd be living in a Van but in reality, it could be true.
My psychologist did the leg work for my CIA application that was approved and my medical marijuana application that was also approved. He has a Phd so I'm not sure if that plays a factor or not. And he's great too. He's the only person listens to me without interrupting. And sometimes I go in his office and I don't shut up for the first half of the session, he sits there and listens.

SaintJohn,
I don't have a family doctor either! My psychologist filled out the doctor's form and it was approved the first time. Yes, I am very lucky to have a very supportive husband! If it was left up to me to fill out everything, we would be living in our van. I don't have the patience to deal with certain people or paperwork! I turn into the Hulk! Lol

Re: CPP AND CIA
I guess the MAIN battle is to find a Doctor that is on board with saying that you qualify for such programs like the DTC and CPPD. I live in an area where you have to wait 3+ years to get a family Doctor and when you do get one they will probably think you're curable or they will disagree with you or whatever then you have to wait another 3+ years for another Doctor.
I'm in such a jam when it comes to Doctors. lol
Its quite nice that your husband takes care of all your paperwork!!

Vet1234,
I am not motivated either! I get so frustrated with all the paperwork and answering the same silly questions over and over again. There should be only one question asked on these forms...
Are you a Veteran or disabled Veteran? If so, APPROVED! But that will never happen because 'the powers that be...would lose the control and power they 'think' they have over us. I am very lucky that my husband has the patience to take care of all my paperwork and dealing with VAC/CPPD/and SISIP.

Re: CPP AND CIA
SaintJohn,
All the info is available on Service Canada.ca
Download Application for Canada Pension Plan Disability Benefits. I don't know your situation, but if you have a disability, you might want to apply for this. There is a doctor's form that must be filled out, but I found applying for this benefit was the easiest so far!

Collecting CPP or CPPD does not affect, or reduce the CIA or the CIA Supplement.
