Yes, the lower COLA will greatly reduce what SISIP will have to pay.

As an example I will use my numbers, as if I had been reinstated.

75% for 2012 was $3895 - CF annuity of $1474 = $2421 gross
If they increased both by the national COLA rate of 1.9%, SISIP would owe $2466 after deductions, for an increase of $45 per month. But by limiting the COLA increase to 1.2%, while the CF annuity is increased by 1.9%, SISIP will only have to pay $2439, an increase of only $18. That is a difference of $27 per month and $324 for the year. If they saved that much for each of the 900 Veterans who could be reinstated, they will save almost $300000, just next year. And this will only get worse if the index rates grow over the next few years.

Personally, I think Flaherty is having a little to much influence on the new president of SISIP, but that may have been their plan when they fired the last guy, so they could get a government puppet in the job.

This whole inflation scale sisip goes by in all purposes is a scam to insure that ltd persons get paid less each year and Some of us could be on it for 20 years which means a considerable disadvantage . It insures the GOC pays less and saves over time, shameful

So how do you do the math for COLA indexed at 2% and Compound interest owing at 2%? Each year add 4%?? Or what? It really changes a quote.

thanx 4 that. the system is set up so poorly tho....make less than 2% if inflation below 2%....so understood. but then....when it is above 2%....they never increase it. so at the very min...it should b 2% every year regardless.

imagine if inflation really goes up....sisip will drastically reduce in value.

this govt could change that but doubt they will
