Re: Retirement Income Security Benefit (RISB)
Well like I said, I have no problem with this helping those who did not make it into receiving a CF pension, I am happy that those individuals will have something to give some peace of mind when they reach age 65.
I just hope that those who are medically released before the 10 year mark, are directed to apply for ELB, as the MVA has stated the RISB is based on those who are moderate to severely disabled, and are on ELB.
I must admit, this was not the way I thought the RISB was geared towards, so those who do not receive a CF pension, and are receiving sisip, should apply for ELB.
Those that are receiving a CF pension, and are on sisip, should be pushing for the sisip for life change.
We now know a bit more about the RISB, now we wait for the actual way it is to be written on paper.

Re: Retirement Income Security Benefit (RISB)
I have a real problem with the CF pension exclusion. My CF pension is only $1500, but my ELB benefit is $4000 before the deduction. If they exclude me solely because of the CF pension, I will lose tens of thousands per year after age 65, because the CF pension will also be reduced. The CFIS (30% of ELB) would be $2800 monthly before deductions, so with 1oo% of PIA and supp, I would still earn minimum of $53000. But with just my reduced CF pension, PIA and PIA supp, it only equals less than $34000 annually before taxes. So this legislation will effectively punish those who served more than 10 years

Re: Retirement Income Security Benefit (RISB)
Agreed Propat it is good news for those Veterans. The Minister said he has identified 406 Veterans that would benefit from the RISB so the numbers are low as to how many will actually receive the RISB.

Re: Retirement Income Security Benefit (RISB)
its still a good half measure in my mind and this is extremely important for those that this will effect . these are the guys that have been totally fracked buy the buyout receiving small monthly benefits and would be receiving next to nothing at 65. I do know its a drop in the bucket or very little or what have you , I get that but for the very few this will effect this will mean a lot.

Re: Retirement Income Security Benefit (RISB)
In my case, I don't receive a DND pension but collect LTD until 65. I would like to think I should be considered for this catchment RISB Minister O'Toole describes.

Re: Retirement Income Security Benefit (RISB)
There was a lot of discussion about CF members being medically released just before being eligible for a CF pension - This proposed RISB seams to be geared towards looking after those individuals.
If that is the case, I have no problems with that, just trying to gather as much info as possible, to get a better understanding of this RISB.
Thank God for CSAT - All of your inputs make it much easier to understand things.

Yes at 7:45 in the video Minister O'Toole says if you have a military pension you don't have the need of RISB and that the RISB is not designed as a catchment for those with a military pension but those who don't. Paraphrasing.

Re: Retirement Income Security Benefit (RISB)
Ok now that's a game changer for me, I think that those that are receiving a CF pension and are receiving sisip benefits should push for the life benefits from sisip, and stay clear from the RISB, if this not qualifying for RISB because of the CF pension turns out to be the case. ( Don't really know if he miss spoke in that video )
Looking at the example they mention old age security - and CPP.
No CF pension.
Must be fact ?

Re: Retirement Income Security Benefit (RISB)
Ok so I just watched the video from 6608's post, and I thought I heard that those who are receiving a CF pension will not qualify for RISB at age 65.
Did anyone else understand it that way ?

Re: Retirement Income Security Benefit (RISB)
Heard back from the Minister's office email account in reference to my email sent yesterday addressing the RISB and exclusion of Sisip LTD clients. They have asked for my personal details i.e. address, phone and DVA file number.

Re: Retirement Income Security Benefit (RISB)
trooper here is the thing im sure no one is blaming him alone for the buyout I have a huge list for who is to blame for that . not gonna run that long list off right now but suffice to say their is plenty of blame to go around .
the fact is the buyout IS BY FAR the biggest problem with the NVC .
who is suppose to be responsible for fixing this problem????
Santa clause ?????
never thought this guy would even consider taking this job but guess what HE DID .
now its on him even if he is just another harper puppet its all on him.
as long as he continues to support the buyout either through his action ore inaction ill have no faith in him.

Re: Retirement Income Security Benefit (RISB)
This is a good way to communicate with the Minister, especially given the fact that this Minister is very upfront with the Veteran community.
I am starting to get a good vibe from Mr. O'Toole, the thing is he seams to understand things a lot better than those past MVA's, I also think he has a way of putting things in perspective, I think this type of mindset from this MVA could prove beneficial for all Veterans.
I do not fault him for the buyout as this was not brought to court on his watch - and now that it is before the courts - I think his just letting that play out to see what happens with it.
To me as long as our MVA continues to be upfront with us, and fights hard for us, that is really what matters.
We all know that certain changes may have to go through the PM first, perhaps yes, or perhaps no.
But the bottom line for me is this - as long as Mr. O'Toole listens to Veterans, and understands Veterans, and works hard to address our concerns, that is good enough for me.
BTW - Thanks to all who have sent there letters to Mr, O'Toole, it represents all Veterans.
