There are just too many variables........ anti-malaria drugs like Mefloquin can cause mental issues. This controversial drug which all the countries that used it, knew it was dangerous and the risks, yet our military still handed it out.

There are so many unknowns....but what is know to us with PTSD and other illnesses is that marijuana is way more effective at reducing some symptoms than so-called approved medication which kills your liver and burns your stomach just doesn't can't do.

Reality is: doctors don't have all the answers, but funny.....the politicians (Harper, VAC, VRAB etc) seem to think they do.

I run a fan by my head while sleeping at night....only way I can sleep. I refueled aircraft....Sar helicopters hot refueling....many times I had 0 ear protection at times. Funny how one person says it's amazing how my have tinnitus with ptsd. I personally believe my ringing is caused by grinding my teeth....I'm told neck injuries can cause it also. Who knows. All I know is that it can really upset a person's life. I also had 4 needles that the mri gave prior to deployment to Africa. The innoculating nurse when I asked what is it that they're giving us....he shook his head and said he doesn't know. That is scary....4 needles and even the nurse don't know what the cocktail is that's going in a body. IMO I don't think any of those needles are good for anyone. Anyay my rant is done. I agree tinnitus is very hard to deal with.

Many people who have PTSD also have Tinnitus. Some may say it is consequential, some will say it is a common symptom and yes......loud noise is certainly a factor. Regardless, it can drive a person batty if you let it consume you.

I have it and what is best for me is anything to disguise it......quiet is not good.

Tinnitus is not chemically induced to my knowledge. It is being around constant loud sounds without proper hearing suppressant equipment.

Sounds like artillery, gunshots, tanks, diesel generators in tin cans, boiler rooms on boats etc.

If you have tinitus go to a specialist, like a Ear Nose Throat doctor, not an audiologist. Sometimes a hearing aid can counter the tinitus.

I was an EGS tech which included working in power plants in remote locations and I go see an ENT regularly so I have had many conversations about hearing with him. The trick is to try and put up with it as long as possible then go in for help.

Veterans Affairs Minister Erin O'Toole has instructed department officials to "look closely" into the case of a Canadian military veteran, who has taken to staging public protests in an attempt to get help.

Blair Churchill, 52, says he's waited over 11 months for assistance for tinnitus, hyperacusis and depression.

Churchill, who spent 22 years in the military, says the process and paperwork of Veterans Affairs is a maze that has become impossible to navigate and he's now committed to protesting until he gets the help he needs.

Churchill now sits at the entrance of 5th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown with signs made of Bristol board and Corn Flakes boxes that read "Minister O'Toole where are you?" and "Vet waiting 11 months for treatment from VAC."

Churchill says he's been through so much with the department he will settle for nothing less than a meeting with the minister and the treatment he says he needs.

O`Toole could not be reached for comment.

Veterans Affairs spokesperson Kristen Sims provided a statement that says: "It's very concerning to the minister that the military veteran needed to go to such lengths to get answers from Veterans Affairs Canada and Minister O'Toole has instructed his team to look closely into this matter.

All military veterans in Canada deserve to be treated with care, compassion and respect and they deserve to have their needs met promptly and thoroughly. It is our duty to serve those who have served Canada."

Staff from the minister's office have spoken with Churchill and the department says the staff of Fredericton Conservative MP Keith Ashfield have also been in contact with him.

Churchill said he received a call Monday from the minister's office. He said he`s open to discussion, but he wants action and not more empty promises.

Churchill also said he's stopped by the office of his MP many times since August 21, 2014, and as recently as last week, but never got an appointment with Ashfield.

"I went in just the other day. They always tell me he`s in meeting and promise to get back to me but they never do."

Ashfield said he was not aware of anytime Churchill requested a meeting with him.

"To my knowledge neither myself, nor my staff have ever received a formal request from Mr. Churchill," said Ashfield.

"But if he were to call, or to come in, we would certainly accommodate him."
