rags a full kilt today is the same as the past.on a 6 foot man its about 2 feet long and depending on gerth you get your next mesurment.a sash is just an attachment like a sporn ore a skin doo.not all wore these.now i can see a phrase the whole 9 feet comming from this.

A full kilt other wise know in slang terms like the Full Monty or the Full 9 Yards was just that 9 yards. A modern kilt maybe a meter or more but a full tradition kilt is 9 yards. Im Italian so no expert ha ha. I figure just by the math it seems alot but if ya double it and sew together its 4.5 yards about 12 feet 3 to 4 around the waist 3 up the back to shoulder and 3 down the front. I dont know ohhhh those Scotts.

well there is no way to prove where the term came from i dont think it was either of these.belts have allways been measured in rounds not yards and a kilt i think takes about 1 square yard of material.

sooo im thinkin it was just derived from 9 the perfect number.

again thats just a guess as good as anyones.

The Whole 9 Yards came from a tailor term for the length of the material that goes into a kilt. Some times a tailor would cheat a client and short the length, the term I want the whole 9 yards or you get the whole 9 yards was in that reference.
Edit in - the term pre dates the machine gun so its not the belt length although maybe the length was 9 yards (i dont know) and they took the term from the kilt under same conditions lets not cheat the enemy lets give him the whole 9 yards..Edit end

Brass monkey was actuallty the rack that held the cannon balls. In cold weather the cannon balls would actually shrink, thus falling through the rack
