I did read up a bit on voluntary disclosure when you first posted this topic , you should contact a CRA specialist who deals with disclosures , don't give them your Identity , just write down questions to ask them an take it from there.
This may provide you with the info you need to make your decision on what avenue to pursue.
And accountant is good but if the accountant is only going to inform you of what you already been informed , I'm wondering if it's worth paying for.
If the accountant can help you in saving you lots of money an it's not to costly , then the accountant might be the best approach.
It's best to gather as much info as possible before committing yourself to what avenue to take.

on your CRA account, you should be able to view and print off all your T4's from the last several years. An accountant is still the way to go, because they may know some loopholes that we have not thought of, to reduce the tax burden.

I have had a bad week and have not managed to accomplish anything. I was looking at taxsolutionscanada.com or just registering a cra account to do a voluntary disclosure. To much paperwork missing to see an accountant.

Perhaps I misconstrued the term "vet" as I am still serving so I can't claim appts on taxes. I am looking to medically release as I can't handle wearing the uniform anymore. Will post another thread for advice on the medical release process.
My mother in law is a former accountant so she would do this for me but I do not want to make her aware of the situation.
I have managed to get most of my paperwork together and thinking I might go the accountant route.

Also my friend if your married you can have your spouse file a T1 Adjustment to CRA to claim any "unused" Disability Tax Credits contingent on your approval of the DTC, trust me it comes in handy, and good luck with the healing process.

Jayse, welcome aboard and it's great to know your health is better May I suggest getting a list of all the appointments you attended for each calendar year from each Doctor. You can claim medical expenses on your income tax for attending these appointments. Like guys said...probably good to see accountant.

Hey Jayse29, welcome aboard. Ain't no flack around here. Just helpful folks'
Someone mentioned an accountant and that is one option for you.
I too ignored my taxes years ago, went 7 years back with all my info I kept.
Much more than all the money I got back, it was a real sigh of relief to put it all behind me.
Even if you got to pay the piper, it's worth the peace of mind...

jayse welcome to the groop buds glad you found it .
we cant do much for ya here first hand MOST of the time but when it comes to good advice we have a lot . we have a lot of experience dealing with just about all things VET and yes that means tax as a matter of fact due to the SISIP thing some of the best tax info you can get you will probably get from this site . I have actually seen factual tax info come from this site that lawyers , CPA,s , and even CRA staff didn't know about .
yup a lot a good advice here and since we have all shared our different experiences issues and approaches to dealing with them whether it be NVC,PA, tax or others its more of a collective knowledge anything we cant recall right off we can normally find in short order .
seriously I would trust just about anyone on this site to do my taxes before anyone else save maybe an actual tax lawyer IF and only if I thought one of those was necessary.
yes you have been given a lot of good advice I recommend you read it all and if you are close enough to firebird go see him he would be your best bet .
firebird you rock buds .

Have you applied for the Disability Tax Credit yet? If not, do so immediately, because it can really help, and once approved, you can have several of the previous years reassessed, putting more money back into your pocket. Even if you end up owing when you do your taxes, the amount owing will be reduced by the DTC.
CSAT is about helping. Today you are the one needing help and support. In the future, you might be the one offering guidance to another Veteran, using the experience you gain going through this process. Nobody here has gone through schooling or training with VAC, or other government body, other than the CF. But we have a ton of people that have learned through experience, and choose to pass that knowledge on.

Re: Mentally ill still serving member , haven't done my taxes in about 6 years and in need of assistance.
No flack here my friend and if any, it is done "hopefully" for good intentions to resolve problems (because they can be very complicated).
Sir, we all take a different path in life and our path as an ex-CF member can be challenging, but yet there are tools "if" sought out that can fix and smooth these paths for the better (do your taxes, who knows they may owe you, IDK, but if you fudged the numbers, well they do have a pay back plan or there are plenty of other ways to handle your "particular situation" ).
Gather all your T4's or/and whatever slips you have and if you need to, you may need to make phone calls to obtain whatever is missing.
"backseat due to mental health issues (alcoholism, ptsd, adhd) and as such, taxes took a back seat".
This can happen to anyone and you receiving help for it now = the best choice for you and your family!
Great job and it is never to late to get your life back on track.
It is work in progress and mental health is extremely complicated.
I know.
