I find it to be true, the VAC and the Legion should both be our advocates for better treatment and services, I'm sure they do some wonderful stuff for their communities, but have forgotten their origins and mandate.

If they were actual Veterans themselves, and walked the walk, they wouldnt be turning their backs on us

bigrex that would make them more than a non entity it puts them squarly on the governments side in their war against vets.yes i said and you can quote me "war against vets".to see no action taken against this government on the nvc ore sisip issues (since they should be advocating for vets ) shows support for the goc by their inaction in this paticular war.i assume the number of leigion leaders that are actual disabled vet may shed a lite on why they continue to support the goc in this dirty war.
allways question athority

I agree, it is hard to get them to respond properly to a request for help,

my other experience with a Legion service officer was out west,

I did a similiar thing in providing the paperwork on the issue on which I needed help with,
granted access to my VAC files,
after a month they came back with there was no issue, no information found on my file

oddly enough, I phoned VAC, no access to information paperwork was even filed by the Legion on my file, they hadn't even gone so far as to follow up with the next step,

I phoned the Legion officer (left voice mail, not nasty) dismissing them from their pitiful attempt, then called VAC to remove any further access from this individual.

The Legion officer called me back and left voice mail, saying if I didnt need his help anymore, then he would close the file, duh, no attempt for help other than lip service, probably added it to his check list of satisfied Veterans helped..

The Legion has almost become a Non entity concerning issues facing younger Veterans, as if we aren't as important as those who served in Korea or earlier. Sure, they'll write a letter but will not offer any real support. A few examples are their absence at the last two annual Veterans Protests, the lack of a rep at any of the SISIP court proceedings, and even when Fabian Melanson was holding his hunger strike in PEI, the Legion didn't even have a rep check in on him. And the Government uses their lack of support to dismiss our concerns, saying that if the Legion doesn't stand beside us, then it must not be important. My own experience, and only experience with them, was with the service officer. I went to him for help with my last appeal, got all my info to him, waited a month for him to read it all and do his research, then when I had my last meeting with him, his recommendations was to contact BPA. What a waste of time of over a month.

I'll give the NDHQ phone number (Jeffery) a try next week,

not sure about my local Legion(propat),

the Legion has posted (multiple times, plus I thought it was their theme) in the local paper for any requests on helping Veterans in filling out VAC, DND, or other paperwork, it was Legion paperwork for a CFPAF loan, my request for help from the Legion was denied

the local Legion rep and the District Area Representative (as advertised in the paper) pointed me back to VAC,

the Legion said someone was appointed to me in this regard,

after calling VAC to see if a new system was in place to help Vets with any paperwork, it turned out they were talking about my case manager,

case managers will not help anyone blow their noses' let alone travel many hours to help fill out any forms.

filled out the form as best i could (and was supposed to be interviewed by a legion rep),
sent it to the provicial office,
they sent it to regional office,
they sent it back down to the original person advertising in the paper, it was denied

does anyone have any information or who I would ask for information on the application for the old wound stripe,

my injuries were prior to the new sacrifice medal, so I do not qualify for it,

they were though overseas, involved hostile action, and required extended hospitalization.

the only contact or information sent to me since the inception of the sacrifice medal, was a letter requesting who(whom) I wanted to designate (up to three recipients, when the rules changed for the memorial cross) for the memorial cross.

if they (whoever is designated) to receive a memorial cross (after death) due to my service related injuries, why was I not processed at any time for the wound stripe.

so if, they didnt process an application at anytime for the wound stripe for me, can I apply for it now?
