Ombudsman Report/Investigation "IN THE LINE OF DUTY" into how the Ontario Provincial Police and theMinistry of Community Safetyand Correctional Serviceshave addressedoperational stress injuriesaffecting police officers
This is the link to the Ontario's Ombudsman Report/investigation into PTSD and how the OPP and other provincial agencies have or have not bothered to deal with the the sleeping giant called PTSD which is rampant within Police, Fire, EMS, Prison Guards and of course the Canadian Military.
The Canadian Military identified the problem of PTSD i.e. suicides within their ranks (due to statistics identifying the problem) and as the employer was compelled by the Canadian Labor laws to deal with this serious issue affecting their soldiers health and lives. The Military had to act and created the first of its kind, a Peer Support program called Occupational Stress Injury social Support which was subsequently funded by the Harper Government so the Canadian military could implement OSISS was they did.
This is the responsible road for an employer in Canada to take, do the best they can in order to deal with a serious problem called PTSD which was killing their soldiers and causing a lot of suffering for the families of these solders. The RCMP a paramilitary organization has the same problem like all the other police services in Canada not to forget first the other first responders i.e. fire departments, prison guards, EMS workers both provincial and federal. I want to thank retired OPP Inspector Bruce Kruger for taking the initiative by filing a group complaint with the Ontario Ombudsman's office in regards to how the OPP and other provincial organization are dealing with PTSD or in fact not dealing with PTSD.
The following link is the Ontario Ombudsman's report which is very important because these findings and statistics are from a Canadian Police Agency and a very credible example of how bad the problem is within their ranks. This is a good example of what is out there in the Canadian Policing community and a very good comparison as to how bad it is within the RCMP ranks and other first responders. Again my hats off to Retired Inspector Bruce Kruger for picking up the torch and running with it.
