The Department meets its responsibilities through its various programs. These include programs for disability pensions, veterans allowances, pension advocacy, health care and commemoration. They provide compensation for hardships arising from disabilities and lost economic opportunities, innovative health and social services, professional legal assistance and recognition of the achievements and sacrifices of Canadians during periods of war and conflict.

VAC provides services to a highly diverse clientele which reflects the remarkable breadth of Canada's contributions to world peace. Our clients include:

Veterans:

   Armed Forces and Merchant Navy veterans who served during the First World War, Second World War or Korean War;
"  Former and, in certain cases, current members of the Canadian Forces, including those who served in Special Duty Areas and in peacekeeping; " and
Allied veterans who lived in Canada prior to periods of war.

Other Clients:

Certain civilians who are entitled to benefits because of their war time services;
" Former and, in certain cases, serving members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police;"and
Survivors and dependants of the foregoing groups.

This CBA that the RCMP have at their disposal worked out well for them in this situation.

We have the COC, Courts Of Canada.

It doesn't seem fair. The RCMP make big bucks compared to us and they get pre NVC benefits.

I take it the CF doesn't have a CBA?

Instead we have humble men and women who put their trust into it's country to do the RIGHT thing. Umm they're still waiting..

The RCMP under their CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) said no to the NVC.

The RCMP are not subject to the NVC. Are they entitled to monthly payments then?

What is needed here is for the government to put their cost cutting measures aside when making changes and or decisions
on our benefits.
They should be improving our benefits in a way that actually benefits us.
They need to stop implementing things that appear to look good on paper, but results in cost cutting on Veterans back.

Rex,

they look after themselves, they are the ones in power and know what's best for them.
Why do you think the RCMP said thanks, but no thanks to the NVC.

I truly believe that praising our armed forces should also be followed up with with a fair commitment that if one is to be medically
discharged from the service, they the government should thank us by making sure that no cost cuts would apply to any benefits
or services that would have and negative impact on us, and any cost cuts would indeed impact negatively our lives going forward.
Further, it is and absolute insult to suggest that they don't owe us anything.
If they owe us nothing, why send us in harms way, better yet why not have each serving member sign a document
acknowledging that if you become medically discharged, we are not obligated to support you,
see how long it would take for the service to shrink.

Be proud of our men and women who serve, thank them by looking after them.

I wish Canadians would realize that Members of Parliament chose to remain covered by the PA, if injured while visiting an operational area, instead of adopting the NVC. So if a politician suffered a heart attack, or was involved ina car accident, while in places like Afghanistan or Iraq, they could still get a monthly tax free disability pension. While soldiers that are injured while in combat, are given a lump sum, and if VAC doesn't deem them severely disabled (over 80%), they will not qualify for any additional long term support.

Well what I will say is that I give Harper credit for acknowledging the threat that ISIS poses to the world.
Ignoring this group is not good leadership in my view.
These individuals are not set in reality of the world we live in today.

However what is missing here is the what takes place after our men and women in uniform are injured and cannot
continue to serve in the service for whatever reason of their medical discharge.
It's one thing to say thanks for our service, but how about given our men and women some confidence and support
when one of us gets medically discharged.
How about listening to what Veterans have to say when stating problems we have with our benefits,
Instead of fighting us in court.
How about setting the record straight about those who compare our work to other workplace environments.
How about making it so when one of our men and women do get medically discharged,
they don't have a long lasting fight to get benefits that they are entitled to.

So yes our men and women will answer the call when called out by our government,
but when you the government makes that call,
please take into account when saying thanks, also take a good look at what the Veterans are saying today about our benefits,
and listen and  respect what we are saying.
Fighting us when we are disabled does not show much respect towards us.

And the standard of lifetime disability pensions will never exist for these soldiers when they claim injuries. Too bad they ain't worth it.

Assorted Merged Stored Topics - Page 40 Empty ISIS in Iraq: Canada to send special ops soldiers as advisers

Post by Guest Fri 05 Sep 2014, 20:46

"While it’s low risk, it’s not without risk," Harper said, later telling the CBC's Terry Milewski that the risks of the deployment are "acceptable and manageable."

"Our men and women in uniform [are] ready to answer this call, and I thank them for always being prepared to defend Canadian values and interests in a dangerous world," the prime minister said.

"Perhaps now would be a good time to publicly discuss the NVC"

Assorted Merged Stored Topics - Page 40 Empty Canada inc.democracy is dying, TPP is born

Post by Guest Thu 27 Mar 2014, 05:43

Democracy and all of your rights are dying, and it's all going on behind closed doors, you are not even supposed to know about it, Harper sure does know and wont say a word about TPP, control freak you might say, complete psychopath is more like it.

Here's what's really going on and why Harper and the conservative lie all the time. Canada will be a privately own company, you will loose all your rights, all privacy and even your life if this deal is approved.

The Trans Pacific Trade Agreement or TPP is a very complex and diverse issue so let me try and briefly sum up what the treaty encompasses and how it is going to affect you, the general public.
So the TPP is an ongoing free trade agreement that is currently being negotiated by 12 countries, representing 40 per cent GDP, making this the largest economic trade agreement ever.
It encompasses everything from trade, medicine and even Internet regulation. A lot of this has to do with law around intellectual property, to quote one of the objectives from the leaked IP chapter of the TPP, to "reduce impediments to trade and investment by promoting deeper economic integration through effective and adequate creation, utilization, protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights, taking into account the different levels of economic development and capacity as well as differences in national legal systems".There are already some great examples of "protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights" under some other trade agreements previously mentioned by Nancy; the NAFTA agreement that allowed U.S paper company AbtitibiBowater to file a lawsuit against Canada in 2008 resulting in a $130 million payoff that came right out of your tax dollars.Or there is the more recent pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly hitting, once again, the country of Canada with a $500 million suit for invalidating American patents for two of its drugs, opening the door for cheaper generics. These are two great examples of injustices that are already happening under current trade agreements; the TPP would only further open the door for companies (just in case you missed that) to sue an entire country for essentially getting in the way of them making a buck (or several hundred million more bucks). Now there are many more issues we could address within the TPP, and I really do encourage anyone reading this to get online and find out what's going on because it's really scary stuff. But there is a larger issue at hand here: we were not even supposed to know this was even going on! At all! This entire agreement was meant to happen completely out of the eye of the public, who, by the way, it directly affects. And this isn't an isolated case of playing keep-away from the public. It literally happens all the time.In what functioning democracy is the public not only unable to give input in their government's decisions, but not even informed at all? There needs to be an immediate public inquiry into what's going on behind the curtain regarding the TPP and furthermore there absolutely has to be a demand that we as the general public have the means and access to keep ourselves informed on what the government is doing.

Now do you understand how dangerous this deal is, it's all being done in secret behind heavylly garded closed doors, now where did i hear that before ?
Harpers office, that's where.
They are very good in making you beleive only what they want you to see, step out of the box and dont play by their rules and you might end up in a different type of box; i dont really care if they are offended, they just want you to be a good slave; are they supposed to be civil servants or is it the other way around ? just like TPP it's all very confusing.

I said it before and will say it again, Harper is a Bilderberger sold to olygocracy plus he is a pure religious fanatic just check out who travelled with him to Israel 200+ of them freaks, plus he is totally sold on gas not environmently freindly energy, just gas money, power and control freak psychopath who will unroll a red carpet to Monsanto, big banks, big pharma, big oïl, and more big whatever or who ever wants a part of our land, our money, our rights, our liberty and even our lives.

Did you wonder why Harper wont give us what they and his predecessors stole from us, cause were not big people.
