Pinger and Johnny211,

Thanks for the info. So it seems that once you get the DEC its over for 2year bi annual updated meds. I wonder if Sisip LTD will still require the 2 year med reviews with updated med reports from specialist? ( I am mid 50s too)

I also got the DEC 2 year review letter a while ago " ... We have determined that you continue to meet the VAC definition of TPI ... "
It was routine for me ScottyG. No medical paperwork or exams and I'm in my late 50's also.
Just expect it in 2 years if you just got DEC.

Bruce72, Not sure if this helps you as it is for those who are already(?) DEC...
Common sense tells me it should be the same, DEC or not but common sense ain't very common...

" Re-engaging in the Rehabilitation Program after completion of the Rehabilitation Plan

29. If a Veteran who has been determined to have met the criteria for DEC and who has previously completed his or her rehabilitation plan (and Program eligibility) wishes to re-engage in rehabilitation, the Veteran must re-apply to the Rehabilitation Program.

30. If the Veteran had been medically released, he or she will subsequently have to qualify under the “rehabilitation need” gateway, i.e. the Veteran must have a health problem that resulted primarily from service and that is creating a barrier to re-establishment in civilian life. Refer to Rehabilitation Services and Vocational Assistance - Eligibility policy for more information. "

Re-engaging with VAC's Rehabilitation Programs Empty Re: Re-engaging with VAC's Rehabilitation Programs

ScottyG - I called VAC a few mths ago, as I was passed my 2 yr mark on my approval for Dec/EELB. I figure they where going to reassess. But the lady said since you are 100 percent, we do not require any further assessments. Now this may be case by case I'm not sure. It could also be that I'm well let's say in my late 50's. So they may make a younger Vet to reassess. Anyone have anything further to add?

I think it would be nice not to have to bother with med reports etc for the next 11 yrs. But will that be the case?

Re-engaging with VAC's Rehabilitation Programs Empty Re: Re-engaging with VAC's Rehabilitation Programs

If your condition/s worsen after you complete VocRehab, you may be eligible for the other forms of Rehab. I'm to afraid to go into detail publicly about how this whole process played out with VAC. I'm paranoid that VAC monitors CSAT and that they may identify me through the words I write here, if I say to much. However, I can private message anyone with more details if need be.

My Case Manager, who apparently is no longer with VAC, tried for almost 4 months to persuade me that I was not eligible to re-engage Rehab. I disagreed and after fielding as much medical evidence I could lay my hands on, I presented my case to my new Case Manager, who also resisted the idea. After much arguing, my CM finally relented and agreed to put forth the idea of re-engaging the Rehab program to whoever approves or disapproves the Rehab program at VAC. The very next day, barely 24 hours later I was approved and another 24 hours later My VAC account updated and showed I was also approved for ELB.

A DEC claim has also been initiated. And I was approved for PIA/CIA last year.

I do not know of another veteran who has completed Rehab and engaged it a second time. This is rare I think.

My present situation is I have LTD sisip,ELB,CIA,CIAS,DEC this all has unfolded in the last 6 months except the LTD. I was told I could go back on VocRehab just by requesting it. I recently got a letter saying VocRehab has been completed. This didnt concern me because my former CM told me I can request a return to at anytime if I am feeling better etc. I assume that my ELB will continue until i turn 65 presently i have 11 years to go. With this letter telling me i am no longer on Voc rehab or med rehab i am assuming i will likely not require any additional evaluation medical or otherwise?  Opinions or comments?

Good advice Johnny. I can understand that a CM might push a person a little, to see what they can handle, but my first CM thought I could handle more than I really could. Not to mention the course of study I took was not a good fit for me mentally. Not to mention it leads basically nowhere in terms of employment.

This is the same case manager that sent me a flashlight in the mail to "find" my way, and more than once in heated discussion told me I am off balance. Gee, ya think? I only tried to tell her that, hundreds of times.

In fairness, I know she was trying to help, but it was the wrong kind of help that I received.

Bruce72 - sort of similar to what happened to myself. I was on Voc rehab, did college for a yr, all the while still doing pscy. Got a job, then the wheels feel of the bus(head), then I left, signed off on Voc, and reverted to pscy. I caution all who are on Voc to think twice, and not to be pushed into it by their CM. Have a serious talk if your seeing a pscy, to see if you are really up to it mentally. VVV...

I agree gunner. Not all CM's are in the corner of the veteran. I hope this info will help veterans who find themselves in a similar situation.

I haven't applied for VIP yet, but I will this week. Thanks for the suggestion.

Bruce72,

Good for you not giving in to the CM and pushing for what you knew what right. I swear some CM think they have total control over us Vets. Have you applied for VIP yet? http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/services/health/veterans-independence-program

I wanted to let other veterans know that I have successfully re-engaged with the Rehab programs offered by VAC. I have already completed VocRehab, back in 2014. Now I'm participating in Psychosocial Rehab.
