Re: Departmental Review
yes, it can be a good thing. Basically, some VAC staffer was looking at your file, and basically says it looks like someone screwed up. A few years ago, they ordered a departmental review of my fathers claim, that had been denied in 92 when he released, and ended up giving him a 15% PA pension. Sure, he got screwed out of around 20 years worth of pension earnings, but at least he started getting something for it, thanks to a VAC initiated departmental review.

I’ve had one.
They initiated it, and the result was changing a disability award to a pension, as I had had a prior claim years ago that had been denied.
Ended up a very good thing.

Re: Departmental Review
Hey Nemo
I have requested a departmental review in the past from the BPA. It was initiated by me because I felt VAC may have made an error in its rating of my disability. I am unsure if the status of a departmental review will be displayed on the MyVac website. I have recently requested a review of a decision by VAC pertaining to the Grade level related to the EIA. I was told this review would take 4-5 weeks.
An "Old Vet" once told me a number of years ago that any decision made by VAC regarding an award or benefit should be reviewed. I have always asked for a departmental review from the BPA on matters because they will give you advice on whether or not a VAC decision should be appealed with the VRAB.

Departmental Review
Who has had a departmental review? And if so was it initiated by you or by VAC? I ask because I never requested one and yet it shows up at stage 1 in MyVac. I am currently stage 3 for a reassessment but still waiting on that one.
