Re: Claiming hearing loss
Wild thing- i suggest you make separate claims: one for tinnititus and the other for hearing loss. Both will be adjudicated separately and decisions made seperatley. If you have another medical condition ( e.g bruxism) you can also file applicaiton stating your tinnitus is consequential to your bruxism or other medical condition. As guys said above, you will need this documented in your service file. Good luck

Re: Claiming hearing loss
Had my hearing test found nerve damage have to see a specialist damn ear defenders would rupture in the cold from the concushion of the guns and the oil in them would run into your ear when they warmed up. they always say not to put anything in your ears unless perscribed by a doctor so ear defender oil im pretty sure is not on the list of perscription ear drops...

Re: Claiming hearing loss
As a retired Rad Op, my hearing loss was pretty severe. So my claim went thru pretty fast. Wear aids in both ears. It should be automatic for certain trades. Hearing loss is bound to happen in these trades.

Re: Claiming hearing loss
wild thing yup seems that way I recall posting about a buddys fight a while ago over herring . talked to him about it today . ya he was infantry also a morterman for a few years . the military caught his hearing loss while he was in mortar plt before they had B.A.D's .
he filed on release he was granted 10% but at 1or 2 fifths forget witch one so he got nothing added to his PA but did get a cheque for a very small amount. he challenged that a while back with a new assessment from a audiologist and the report stated it was percussion damage DEFINATLY due to military service . forgot to mention the damage is all right ear left ear is fine.
didn't they fracking deny him . blows my fracking mind .
yup they ignore medical facts and don't give the benefit of the doubt so ya may be a fight.

Interesting bigrex i will make sure the audiogist knows this so she can state that this can happen years after the actual damage taking place. and the old test were not very reliable and why. thanks!!!

Re: Claiming hearing loss
I thought that of my trade too, since I did Fire Control (Navy version of Artillary), and sat right inside the gun while firing. I had a hearing test, when I released, but it was the old style where they shove you in a box and tell you to press a button if you hear a beep, and it was conducted by a Cpl MedA, not an audiologist. That was late 2005, and I've had two hearing tests conducted in the last ten years, and both prove that I have hearing loss, with tinnitus, but VAC claims that in order to be approved, you have prove you had hearing loss upon release.

Re: Claiming hearing loss
I believe you can submit them on the same application, but will be adjudicated separately, and receive separate disability ratings. But I will tell you, unless your hearing loss was noted when doing your release medical, VAC will deny it and the tinnitus outright.
