Greatfoot .............it is fairly simple
Everyone who is getting ANY type of retro will pay 17.83% legal fee if this percentage is accepted by the judge on the 14/15th feb.

NO ONE pays legal fees on any payments going forward.

The 7.5% + 7.5% is just mubo jumbo double talk which is NOT even being asked for, it was just a hypothetical what if, meaning if the legal firm was to ask for a percentage of going forward payments that is how they would have calculated it BUT they are NOT asking for payment in that manner hence your calculations are incorrect

This is how the want their money paid to them

Total retro: $434,280,430 (+/-) x 15% fees = $65,142,064.5

plus they also want an additional 2.83% for hst and disbursements

Greatfoot, I don't know about your calculations and only time will tell. The way i read it is a s follows:
Vet A gets 2 years payment and nothing further. He gets 1500 per month x 24 months = 36,000. For ease of this example we will not add in interest and such....so VET A pays 17.83% of 36,000 or 6418.80

VET B (myself) pays 17.83 on my 8 year backpay of approx 135,000 which is 24,070.50. I then continue to collect my extra 1500 per month until age 65 with no further legal deductions. Am I wrong on this? Is this why the vets getting only backpay are upset? Easy to see why they would be upset but also easy to see why I would be upset having to pay an extra 17,651.17
In summary, I am not upset and realize a line has to be drawn at some point. Could it have been drawn on a fairer basis?? probably.

Greatfoot, you are off point on this my friend. The lawyers said they had the option of charging 7.5% on retro and 7.5 on future payments from those that receive them OR charge everyone 15.7% on the retro, plus the averaged 2% for HST, and no fees for future payments. They chose the second option.

So since all fees are coming from the retro, the 65 million taken out of the retro plus the interest and the education fund equals 17.83%. Now if you compare the 65 million to those funds AND the 450 million included for future payments, it only comes to 7.5% of the entire amount. This is where the double speak comes from. There are telling the media that their only charging 7.5% but turning around and charging the class members 17.85% of their retro, which for the majority of the class is all the money we will see from the settlement.

In my letter accepted by Judge Barnes, I stated that I would pay the equivalent of 6.5 years of retro active pay in Legal fees. Money that was contractually owed to me.

Propaganda is a form of communication that is aimed towards influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position by presenting only one side of an argument.
