Mainly Visa and MC are doing this because they were involved in a class action.....guessing this is how they plan on making that money back? Financial Institutions rarely lose!
Consumers should also be aware of an increase in TIPS/gratuity (mostly restaurants, taxi's etc). Mainly because of Covid others for greed have increased this amount. From my understanding....one does not have to accept this (I do not)....tell your server to remove it and they should comply. Buyer beware!

Rules for Credit Card Surcharges
In case you missed this retailers are now allowed to apply a surcharge for using a credit card when making a purchase from their store. Here is a news article on who and how surcharges are known and applied.
