Well the bureaucrats wrote up the NVC and that's a bad track record. Mostly veterans wrote the PA and it too had some faults (NOT PENSION).

I'd like this to be a collaboration of both vets, vet orgs and bureaucrats. Vets used mainly to read anything they write to make sure it is in plain language.

Not very promising if this all done behind closed doors. Need that transparency to get this one right.

yuuuuup very !!!

I keep looking at the phase "re-establish lifelong disability pensions" here there and everywhere and im waiting for the day I see a "the" between "re-establish" and "lifelong" but I aint seeing it yet.

if he was working on doing it the right way he would be encouraged and applauded .

if he is doing something else well..... I understand the silence and its deafening .

Humm sounds like he is not seeking any input from any veterans or veteran organizations. Anyone else worried about that?

Suggestions?... well, keep holding them to account. Here's a reply I got yesterday regarding updates we have not heard. Seems too vague. My underlines.

Dear xxxx

Thank you for your e-mail regarding the support provided to Canada’s Veterans.

As Minister of Veterans Affairs, I am committed to ensuring that Veterans and their families receive the exemplary care and benefits that reflect our nation’s deep gratitude for their selfless dedication.

My mandate letter from the Prime Minister details my current priorities, and I have already had discussions with departmental officials on several items. For example, the Government would like to re-establish lifelong disability pensions as an option for injured Veterans, increase the Earnings Loss Benefit and create a new education benefit for Canadian Armed Forces members after completion of service. Veterans Affairs Canada is working on these issues, and I will bring forward a proposal to Parliament for approval when it is finalized.

In the months to come, I will also work closely with the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of National Defence, to forge closer ties between our departments and ensure that those who are unable to continue in their military career are fully supported as they make the transition to civilian life.

In the meantime, if you would like to obtain details about the full range of programs and benefits offered by Veterans Affairs Canada, please visit the Department’s website (
www.veterans.gc.ca). I encourage you to check back regularly for new announcements and updates on the positive changes that we are making in the lives of Veterans and the families who stand behind them. You may also call the Department (1-866-522-2122, toll-free). A representative would be pleased to help you in every way possible.

Again, thank you for writing and for your contributions in service to our country.

Sincerely,

The Honourable Kent Hehr, PC, MP

Has anyone emailed Karen McCrimmon? She's the Parliamentary Secretary for Veterans Affairs.

Karen.McCrimmon@parl.gc.ca

No answer from her then hit up the opposition MP's to make their first question about the lack of an update to the veterans. Where's the transparency?

Yep, so true! Insulting to say the lest. Like I really wanted to end my career as a disabled Able Seaman (*Private* for you army guys)......lived the life of poverty afterwards to pay for my injuries, really nice life!
Here's to being railroaded by the feds......the biggest gang of thugs in Canada! Armed with carbon weapons (1,300 RCMP OFFICERS)! how do Veterans fight for what they rightly deserve? Through VRAB and VAC, look at that pay chart, doesn't compare at all to my T4's since deemed disabled. I am pretty sure I was insured under the sacred obligation of Canada, guess not, since I am still fighting.
What direction are we going? This isn't the Canada I was brought up in.

Try doing your release while in Ottawa. You have to go to NDHQ, which is where the BOR and pay office is located. But the moment you hand over your ID, you have to be escorted at all times. So even after a long career, and sacrificing your mind and body for the Nation, you all of a sudden become a security threat. To me, that was adding a huge insults, to injury.

I think the mandate is being untangled as we type.  My file has been forward to VRAB (reconsideration) dated this February. Movement on my file finally ! ! After more then 13 years of the run around and unsure the reasonings to why I was getting whipped left, right and center.
We all had dreams, goals and what we wanted our future to look like from serving with the Canadian Armed Forces....

My future didn't look like this at all once I was injured. It looked more like $0.00 and not even a hand shake goodbye.
Am I pissed off "yes" I am.  Not only am I paraded around for years and kept in limbo, but ordered to be the PM piper for the departure of our military on the war on terror (which I wanted no part of, but ordered by god knows who? to stand there in front of cameras), adds to my paranoia.
Lost income (and that is 2013 table)? Doesn't equate, especially when your a victim of such a confusing system know as Veterans Affairs Canada/SISIP
I never wanted out and I have the contract that is signed to prove it. keep in mind we have a dictator government for the next 4 years (majority rules), so if the mandate is helping Veterans, I hope that they fix the gap and make it responsible and respectful to the wounded period.
LOST OF PRIDE WHEN YOU HAND IN YOUR UNIFORM, EVEN WHEN ORDERED TO

This has to be fixed now ! ! ! Before any more of our brothers and sisters are shafted by their own government, 300 more pairs of boots in harms way.

I don't see anything wrong with the MP's supporting their constituent..but we are talking about a Cabinet Minister here..I think he should be speaking more on his mandate..or at least if hes going to support his constituent..he should also coincide his remarks with what his primary duties are.
That is probably why you are seeing a lot of backlash on his Facebook..it's a little early in the game to be concentrating your Energy on your constituent..deal with your mandate first.

Something else from our MVA ;

Liberals have three ways to help Albertans, says minister

Kent Hehr, Minister of Veterans Affairs, was in Lethbridge on Tuesday for a federal pre-budget consultation session with the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce.

He spoke about the upcoming budget, sought input from the community, and answered questions at the Coast Hotel.

Hehr said the price of oil could flounder around $30 per barrel for the next few years, and the government needs to budget accordingly to spur the struggling economy.

“I’d love to say we have all the cures for $30 oil. I would be fibbing,” he said. “Let’s face it, it’s a serious impact to most of Alberta. I think what you’re seeing from the federal budget and the Liberals are things that are going to work for Alberta at this time.”

Three things planned will help create more jobs and put money back into Albertans’ pockets, he said.

First is a middle-class tax cut, which will result in a seven per cent reduction in the tax bracket for Canadians with taxable annual income between $44,700 and $89,401. The tax relief is worth up to $670 per person, per year, or $1,340 for a two-income household.

To pay for the cut, a new tax bracket of 33 per cent for individuals earning more than $200,000 each year will be introduced.

Second, the federal government will introduce a new Canada Child Benefit, and cancel the Universal Child Care Benefit.

The Canada Child Benefit is tax-free and tied to income, so it provides greater support for single-parent and low-income families. Hehr said the plan will lift more than 300,000 Canadian children out of poverty.

The third main component is the federal infrastructure program. The Liberals have committed to invest almost $20 billion over 10 years for social infrastructure such as affordable housing and childcare spaces, as well as $6 billion over the next four years and $20 billion over 10 years for green infrastructure.

“We’re also going through the federal budget cycle which would see more projects identified here in Alberta for people to get the projects they need in their cities and rural Alberta up and running,” said Hehr. “The money’s been allocated and now we just need to find good projects that we’re going to build upon. We’re looking for projects that are shovel ready, but will also add value to the economy and economic growth going forward.”

Last week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with Premier Rachel Notley in Edmonton and announced $700 million to be fast-tracked for Alberta infrastructure.

Hehr said the cash will be in Notley’s hands, and it’s up to the provincial government to determine which projects go ahead and when.

“I can see nothing more exciting for Albertans than the ability for us to do some projects right now to get more people back to work, which is what I’m hearing from people on the street, people in Lethbridge, that there’s a real need for that,” said Hehr.

“My understanding is the provincial government, from my time there, we have a laundry list of things that need to be built. In fact this entire nation has an infrastructure deficit that is large and governments need to direct their attention to it. The federal Liberals get this, we ran on it, and we’re following through on that promise.”

Hehr said the federal government is doing what it can to ensure that Alberta comes out of this stronger, that infrastructure programs are going to be for the long run, help make the economy more productive, and allow Alberta “to be better positioned for when we turn the corner.”
