Re: Legal Fees (Assorted Topics)
Bankruptcy should have to pay back in the year they were bankrupt. Now a days young people use this as a get out of jail card. As taxpayer I am sick of it, I pay my bills from small cf pension, CPPD and vac . Two year sisip retro but believe deal is ok, not great

Re: Legal Fees (Assorted Topics)
Hey Guest,
Just to add fuel to your fire. If you are on CPPD or about to get CPPD SISIP will CLAW BACK the Gross amount that CPPD paid you, not the net (or in your bank amount). So your $9641 left over will be stripped from you to pay back SISIP.
There is no win win in this situation. Plus for all those paying child support your child support will go up and you most likely will have to pay RETRO child support from the remainder of your settlement IF there is much left over anyway.
The only real good thing to come out of this is IF and only IF you are going to get future payments from SISIP, oh wait hold on there, if you are on CPPD then SISIP will take that back dollar for dollar, so you are not ahead anyway.
But hey like the lawyers said this is heck of a good deal.
ps..
Don't forget if you claimed bankruptcy.... you will have to pay that back also. For some this is a going broke and in a further going in debt situation. Yep, its a good deal.

Re: Legal Fees (Assorted Topics)
1993firebird exactly your words "going to take 15% from everyones retro" they are not taking anything from anyone forward only 15% from everyone retro
Guest- Guest
Re: Legal Fees (Assorted Topics)
I know all that , Peter himself said 7.5% on retro and 7.5% on going forward payments but instead of waiting for each amount taken from going forward payments they are just going to take 15% from everyones retro but no everyone has going forward payments.

Re: Legal Fees (Assorted Topics)
1993firebird...............it is fairly simple
Everyone who is getting ANY type of retro will pay 17.83% legal fee if this percentage is accepted by the judge on the 14/15th feb.
NO ONE pays legal fees on any payments going forward.
The 7.5% + 7.5% is just mubo jumbo double talk which is NOT even being asked for, it was just a hypothetical what if, meaning if the legal firm was to ask for a percentage of going forward payments that is how they would have calculated it BUT they are NOT asking for payment in that manner hence your calculations are incorrect
This is how the want their money paid to them
Total retro: $434,280,430 (+/-) x 15% fees = $65,142,064.5
plus they also want an additional 2.83% for hst and disbursements

Re: Legal Fees (Assorted Topics)
You still do not get it. The law firm is asking for 7.5% legal fees not 17.83% but they are combining 7.5% on retro and 7.5% on future payments plus 2.83% and taking it from eveyones retro pay. So those who are not getting future payments are being charged an extra 7.5%.
