keeping in mind, that if it is not costing you a cent to make a cent with this uncommon sense approach of caring for us vets, don't stop until you have peace of mind and absolute wellness. You deserve no less.propat wrote:EXACTLY !!!!!! APPLY APPLY APPLY !!!!

Re: PIA, TPI and SISIP
Bigrex. See, I can walk. But my pace is a helluva lot slower than the average person. My spouse who needed a new knee was even faster than me. Even my 80 plus year old mother is faster. And by the time I go into say Wallymart to do a little bit of shopping, I can still walk but it is even slower and then when I get to the car, I have to lift my leg in. Just don't know if that would really hit the spot to qualify or not. Now I can get up off a chair but if I have to squat for something and get on the ground I have an extremely hard time to get up again. And I also have to sit to put my pants on...definitely not going to happen standing up. Sometimes I say....ok...put your damn gotch or pants on standing up without hanging onto something or sitting down..but nope....even my 80 plus mother does not need to sit to put her pants on. But again, perhaps my condition would be deemed too mild. What do you think Bigrex?

Re: PIA, TPI and SISIP
I do my research now. I also pull as much as I can from the good people on the forum here. I used to take what VAC said at face value, I figured they knew.... Turns out many of them don't. My advice to vets, ask for advice on the forum and read the policy. I've been given false information from VAC numerous times.
Was told that the dependent portion of CPPD was clawed back from ELB. It isn't.
Was told that I wasn't eligible for PIA. I was.
Was told I wouldn't be deemed TPI. I was.
Apply, Apply, Apply.
Know the policy, VAC makes mistakes.

Re: PIA, TPI and SISIP
ya its been a while like I said not sure witch one or ones I had an issue with . but now that I recall it was the PIA and the PIA/S I had issues with and your correct it wasn't the TPI that tripped me up for application date it was the rehab approval that did that as I was applying for that at the same time as well .
yess I remember now they didn't take my application date they used the date of my acceptance for the rehab ( the day of or day after still not sure ) for PIA and the date of my TPI acceptance for the SUPP .
when speaking with them they said it was easier to hold the applications until these other things had been resolved and dating them from there than denying me because I didn't have these things just to have me re-apply shortly their after .
its starting to come back to me now lol.
again not sure if you were in the same boat .

Re: PIA, TPI and SISIP
Well I applied for PIA/S on August 4th. On October 27th, I was approved for PIA, but denied PIA/S because I wasn't deemed TPI. I was deemed TPI on October 8th and just submitted my appeal for PIA/S online today. So, it is possible to get PIA without being TPI. However it's not possible to get PIA/S without being TPI.
In fact, the denial letter had called PIAS, "Permanent Impairment Allowance Supplement for Total and Permanent Incapacity."
When my supplement is approved(because I was deemed TPI), the supplement is payable to the date I was deemed TPI, or applied for PIAS, whichever is latest. In my case, I should get my PIAS on the date I was TPI. As well, policy says that my PIA is payable on the date I applied.

Re: PIA, TPI and SISIP
vet 1234 I had the same kind of problem now with me the ELB , TPI , PIA and its sup all at the same time even though I wasn't really qualified for some without getting the others .
I forget witch one or ones I thought I was shorted on but as it turns out my application date was not when I applied but when I was deemed to have applied .
EG: cant get PIA without TPI so I was deemed to have applied for PIA the day of or the day after I was approved for TPI .
same with the PIA sup . I was deemed to have applied for the supp the day on or the day after I was approved for the PIA .
even though I applied for all of them the same day .
not sure if you are in the same situation or not .

Re: PIA, TPI and SISIP
Nemo, I am getting grade 2 PIA, because it takes longer for me to stand and walk than a person of similar age, without a disability. You don't need to be missing a limb.

Yes I was mixing up the two, LOL
I knew one was payable upon approval.

Re: PIA, TPI and SISIP
TPI is payable from the date of approval. PIA from application.
I don't blame you at all, there is soooooo much policy, it's ridiculous.

Re: PIA, TPI and SISIP
Yes after reading it again, your right, it should be paid from the date the application is made.
My bad.

When allowance payable
http://laws.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/C-16.8/page-5.html#h-11
39 The permanent impairment allowance under subsection 38(2) and an increase to the permanent impairment allowance under subsection 38(3) begin to be payable on the latest of
(a) the day on which the application for the allowance or increase, as the case may be, is made;
so it's the day the application was made, not approved according to policy.

Re: PIA, TPI and SISIP
Whatever day they approved you from your application is the day they will pay you from.
It does not go by your application date, it goes by your approval date.
I must of missed read, I though you said your approval date was Aug 4th.
