Re: Bill C-58 "Support for Veterans and Their Families Act" (short title)
I wouldn't care if they replace the ELB with the RISB, with the same deductions, but reducing the PIA, and then deducting money it, is not okay with me? The PIA is considered a disability benefit, and the link to it is on the page for disability benefits, not the financial support page, on the VAC website and before this piece of legislation, we were entitled to 100% of PIA and PIAS for life.
That's no problem Teen. I'll send you a PM with any that I see.

I actually just ran the numbers again, but with current post 65 calculations, without the RISB. Using the same post 65 numbers as on page one of this thread.
CFSA $1200
CPP $800
OAS $200
Full PIA $584
Full PIAS $1074
For a total of $3832, so that means that the RISB would provide the Veteran with $127 extra per month, before taxes, than if they had done nothing. That doesn't sound like much financial security to me.

ya see with SISIP and I believe the same with ELB . they do not deduct for COLA increases .
when they calculate this it is calculated as a new benefit it seems .
they do not deduct the prescribed sources of income when calculating the amount added for your SISIP so 75% of pre release salary then 70% of that plus 70% of PIA and supplement and then they subtract the prescribed sources of income and it seems they are deducting them at the rate they are when you turn 65 NOT at the same rate they have been deducting them from you SISIP benefit witch is the base rate before any COLA over the years .
that's how it reads to me RIGHT NOW but gotta wait till the regs to come out to be cirtin.

I see also where they amend the act and add to sec 2 "purpose"
2.1 The purpose of this Act is to recognize and fulfil the obligation of the people and Government of Canada to show just and due appreciation to members and veterans for their service to Canada. This obligation includes providing services, assistance and compensation to members and veterans who have been injured or have died as a result of military service and extends to their spouses or common-law partners or survivors and orphans. This Act shall be liberally interpreted so that the recognized obligation may be fulfilled.
This addition is obviously a direct result of the Equitas Law suit.
My eyes are starting to glaze over just trying to read this stuff lol............ time for a rest

lol here ya buds don't think it is though but an indirect result . im thinking a direct result of the RCLs response to the GOCs argument for appeal as the RCL sat on the sideline until that point.
plus I didt see them put the word equally in there .
just my take on this though.

I would grade this bill as an F overall and I'm not just thinking of my circumstances.
Instead of a summer break, some advanced summer school in reality or math might help GoC.
Before and/or on the election day, WE may re-evaluate that grade as WE see fit.
Along with the last couple of announcements some cm's must be really pulling their hair out.
Remember... there are less of them now.
Anyhow, in this C-58 bill (Tx 6608) Section 40.1 (4) under RISB, it mentions (A + B) - C.
"Prescribed sources" are taken into account for A but not C.
Where's the definition for prescribed sources? I cannot find subsection 19(1) and I got all docs.
Getting older and blinder I guess. pinger.

Re: Bill C-58 "Support for Veterans and Their Families Act" (short title)
The "prescribed sources" will be listed in the regulations, which will likely not be amended until this gets passed. But I can guess that they would be the same as those listed under the ELB.
22. The following sources are prescribed for the purpose of the amount of variable B in subsection 19(1) of the Act:
(a) [Repealed, SOR/2012-195, s. 1]
(b) benefits payable under the Canadian Forces Superannuation Act, the Public Service Superannuation Act or the Employment Insurance Act;
(c) benefits payable, other than amounts payable for a dependent child, under the Canada Pension Plan or the Quebec Pension Plan;
(d) benefits payable under any employer-sponsored long-term disability insurance plan;
(e) benefits payable in respect of economic loss under the Government Employees Compensation Act or any provincial workers’ compensation legislation;
(f) amounts payable in respect of economic loss arising from legal liability to pay damages;
(g) amounts payable under an employer pension plan;
(h) employment earnings payable while the veteran is not participating in a rehabilitation plan or vocational assistance plan developed by the Minister or where the veteran is participating in such a plan and the sum of the earnings loss payable for a month plus the employment earnings for the month exceeds the veteran’s imputed income; and
(i) 50% of employment earnings payable while the veteran is participating in a rehabilitation plan or vocational assistance plan developed by the Minister so long as the sum of the earnings loss payable for a month plus the employment earnings for the month does not exceed the veteran’s imputed income."
Unfortunately the bill is unavailable to read right now. Maybe too many people trying to access it crashed the website.

pinger I believe it says they are NOT taken into account for A .
C is in fact the prescribed sources.
ya these things do keep ya jumping around from place to place don't they don't they .
ya cant find it in 19(1) of the act anyway they just give you the basic formula referred to as variable B.
the prescribed souses for 19(1) of the act are in 22. of the REGULATIONS .
clear as mud????
LMAO

Re: Bill C-58 "Support for Veterans and Their Families Act" (short title)
Are we on the right path closing gaps? With all of these wonderful announcements of all these upcoming new benefits, which in my opinion none of them seem to apply to all the current injured veterans(except a few, if they so choose to navigate their way through the gauntlet of VAC to qualify). Moving forward, these benefits are just a band aid solutions and sort of a shock and aw campaign to say to Joe public, look! this is what we are doing to help! see, look at us, look at what we are doing! Which keeps adding insult to injury, stressing about announcements and realizing that they are meant for Joe public and not actually announced to help us veteran suffering already enough.
Cut the BS! You want to be an advocate for veterans! Do what is right Mr. O'toole. Skirting around the lump-sum payment (and that is the key issue here) is not working and is more disheartening then ever.

Re: Bill C-58 "Support for Veterans and Their Families Act" (short title)
The next announcement should sound like this:
We did the right thing! We closed all the gaps that were identified with the NVC.
In addition to adding new benefits going forward for those who continue to serve to know that we will continue to have their six.
We also fixed the main GAP, which is the lump-sum payment. Reverting back to the Monthly Pension will give everyone who suffers from an injury due to their service, a monthly prescribed amount in accordance with the Table of Disabilities. Pain and suffering will be endured for the remainder of the veterans life, a lump sum
isn't good enough! WE THE GOC HEAR OUR VETERANS AND RESPECT THEM AND THIS IS WHY ALL THE GAPS ARE BEING CLOSED!
Suffering in silence?
Why is it so hard for the GOC to say "yes" we made a mistake and revert back to the old pension system?
