Disability tax credit
Desperately need to get info or any help??? That You guys have on what the doctor needs to add so that I finally get approved. Had it approved before but let it slide because I never made any money now looking at paying substantial amount in income tax I have PTSD and I know that CRA has guidelines that are very specific about what they need to here

Re: Disability Tax Credit
I was approved DTC recently but they only back dated the approval to 2013 the same year as the application was sent in. FYI be careful not to assume it will go back to the time your conditions started.

Re: Disability Tax Credit
Rifleman yes it can take Months before you get your answer. But the process is simple, you just have to pick up a T2201 and take it to your Doctor to fill out, you also have to fill out a page. This T2201 comes as a DISABILITY TAX CREDIT CERTIFICATE, with instructions to complete it. These forms cannot be faxed in, they have to be mailed in to CRA. It's worth it to apply, if granted it will help you with each return until it expires, where you will have to re apply.
Also if granted they can go back so many years and send you a nice refund.

Re: Disability Tax Credit
Yes closest, nice and simple to the point, it is just protocol to have first time qualified individuals make the request.
This T1ADJ request form will not be required when your DTC expires, you will only have to re apply in your last qualified year. ( T2201 )
Note your adjustment may only be to 2012, as you have not done your 2013 return yet.
And make sure you claim the DTC on your 2013 return, you will have to let the person that completes your return, know that you are entitled to it.

Re: Disability Tax Credit
Nice idea. I may do that. I have written a short letter, but I like your idea a lot, since I haven't mailed it yet, I think I will do just that!

Re: Disability Tax Credit
closest, for your T1ADJ maybe you could fill out part A of the form, and where it states Other details or explanations in part C, just write something like this.
I would like to request and adjustment from 2005 to 2012 as per my granted DTC. Write the reference number of the letter you received granting you the DTC.
Sign it and Date it. That may be something you can ask the CRA. ( FOR CLARIFICATION )

Re: Disability Tax Credit
trooper wrote:closest, just spoke with my accountant and this is what was said with respect to the T1-ADJ. Apparently that is now the SOP for individuals who for the first time are granted the DTC. So that is the norm today those granted the DTC must fill out and send in the T1-ADJ to revenue Canada. My apologies for the confusion as mine was completed years ago, and I do not recall this form. According to the accountant it is a simple process, the best way and or easy way to complete this form is to take the form to any H&R block nearest you, along with the letter stating that you were approved, and they will fill out the form for you, and send it off for you, free of charge, or you can send it off yourself. No more info is required just the approval letter and the T1-ADJ form. Now if your not comfortable with that, you can contact and agent at H&R by phone and they will talk you through it, this is what you were looking for in your original post, some assistance in filling out the form, the reason why she suggested H&R, was that sometimes people try to charge for such a service, where they don't charge. She does not work for H&R but states that this would be the best way to go, in that situation.
Hope this helps you out.
I just got off the phone with H&R Block, and they only the service free of charge if you are already a client..
I knew it was too good to be true. I thought I should pass on that info.
