Re: Pension For Life Estimated Amounts
It really depends on how old you are. If you are 44, and have 40 years to reach their magic cut off age, then a 20% award of $74833, would be compared to 40 years of a PFL 20% pension of $230, iand if there is a difference, you could get both.
74833 / 480 months = $155. So you would get the lump sum, plus a PFl pension of roughly $75 (indexed). But if you are 64, then you won't get anything from the PFL, for a newly approved condition. It's much more complicated, if you are like me, if you have multiple disabilities, and they were increased incrementally because of reassessments and the appeal process. I've gone from an initial 10% in 2008, to 13% in 2012, to 16% in 2015, to 25 in 2017, and waiting for a VRAB decision, that could bring me up to 35%, any day now.

Re: Pension For Life Estimated Amounts
How would the PFL affect someone between now if they got a award and got lump sum, use 20 % for example. Would that benefit them more because the new PfL starts in april? Just curious to the math. As I am waiting for my reassessment and I’m hoping to hear back before April, as it’s been quite a while already. Or would it be possible VAC would delay it until April to benefit so that they would benefit from it more? Thanks

Re: Pension for Life Estimated Amounts
Given my estimate of $50.01 to $75 more monthly I'm guessing the government is playing the long game and hoping I die early versus collect much of this for too long. This estimate was based upon a 10 January 2019 Total Disability Award calculation. I was awarded CIA Grade 3 on 12 January so I'm uncertain if that will change anything wrt the calculation. If I lived for 30 more years this would only amount to ($75 x 12 x 30 = $27,000). I'd rather have it as an additional lump sum because I don't see myself living to be 89 years old.

An estimate, because anyone's situation can change from now until April 1, 2019.
