VAC's official stance on approaching Rev Canada about DTC....."We will not approach another government department about their policies.

I do believe it will get harder and harder for Doctors who will want to fill out these forms, this is something VAC should consider if they ever request anything, Some people can't get A family Doctor and have to go to walk in clinics and emergency rooms, truly sad

Redfisher go to another psychiatrist is the easy answer or have your GP fill out the DTC forms.

This is the classic bureaucratic Catch-22 when it comes to the DTC. I am on CPP D but I was denied DTC! Why? Each gov't department has their own definition of disabled.

I have a friend who lost his leg and he had his DTC taken away from him because Rev Canada changed the rules. He can walk 100 metres with the aid of an artificial leg, crutches, or wheelchair! He's appealed and nope denied each time.

reGuested, I had the Disability Tax Credit completed when I released in early part of 2006. I did not have any issues and my Family Doctor completed it. How long it took if I recall was a few months to get word. Agreed Nav, that is part of their role as G.P. to facilitate these kinds of requests who better then them, as they know your conditions. Greatfoot, sorry to hear that this has happened to you. My family doctor has completed all my dva, sisip, cppd, dtc forms with no issues. If a general practicioner or a family doctor is not able to do the forms they would never be completed as no specialist are going to take the time to do them. Redfisher, do you have a family practioner and/or G.P. because they should have creditanials like mine family doc has - M.D., C.C.F.P. (canadian certified family practioner)

Redfisher, if you have a family doctor, they will fill out their portion of the disability tax credit application. It is routinely done at that level. It is not as though you are applying for a pension per say, you are just requiring confirmation from a doctor to confirm that you have a chronic illness or illnesses. I hope you do have a family doc because that is easiest route. As for the psychiatrist just bypass that, it is not required. Worse case scenerio bring your letters from dva that state your pensioned conditions to a walk in clinic or emergency dept. If you don't have a family doctor explain that to the clinic or emergency. Again, the psychiatrist is not required to sign off on the application form for disability tax credit. Family doctors do that everyday, all day. Pls let me know how it goes. Sparrow

Redfisher, this is a problem more and more Veterans are coming across, and not just for mental health issues. There are too many doctors that refuse to get involved with anything dealing with VAC and VRAB because they have their own horror stories. VAC delaying payments for treatment, questioning the professional opinions of Dr's and specialists, and sometimes calling them outright incompetent if they submit reports favoring a Veterans' claim.

Well one major thing that is wrong with Valls' initial post is the statement that the Government was not fully aware of the repercussions of the clawback and that they had no intention to willfully place undue hardship upon disabled Veterans. There have been recommendations made by SISIP, who advised that the clawback provision was questionable and needed to be changed. Then they definitely were made aware of the unfairness of the clawback after the CF Ombudsmen report back in 2003, where he states the clawback was so egregious that it could be a breach of our human rights. So failure to to remove the clawback clause for almost a decade following that report, shows a very real intent of the government to short change Veterans as long as they could.

Here is the problem with RDSP and the DTC credit that I am experiencing. Three years ago VAC looked at my case and decided I was a right off and nothing else could be done. Yet I wanted to keep trying to get better so they found a psychiatrist who took hard luck cases and he has helped me tremendously and I am very grateful.
Last year I asked him to fill out the doctor portion of the application for disabilty. He refused. So here is the thing, VAC calls me a right off and I am deamed at 75%, SISIP deams me as 'total disability', I know my limitations of my disabilities and it does not take much to throw me off into a tail spin, so I am very carefull of what and how much I do.
So according to VAC, SISIP I am disabled but I can't get disability status for benefits from the GOC because of my psychiatrist. THe psychiatrist says that with more drugs I should be able to cope better, it may take a while but he thinks it can be done. I don't want any more drugs as I am taking 5 different kinds already and things are manageable for me. So what can I do? It seems I am in the middle of things and can't get the benefits that others like me have. I may be missing something here but if VAC and SISIP state I am 'totally disabled' because of the medical updates my psychiatrist sends them, what does a guy do?
