I got a feeling they will get more than 7.5% over the entire pre and post. Seems on the low side since they agreed to 30%. I realize they are asking for 17.7% but that is and up front amount. Interesting situation to watch. The federal court allowing a 65 million dollar legal bills will be a 1st in Canadian history. I wonder for curiosity sake if this was in the USA would they have received the 30% ? Can you imagine CNN reporting on it?

Yes you are right to a point. If settlement had been set at an amount where 30% would have been fair then judge would have granted 30%. It is normally just a figure based on normal legal fees in lawsuits but in cases where extreme values are at play then judge always decides what is fair, whether its 10% or 20, or 30 etc.

I was of the understanding Dennis as the RP signed under independent counsel and after discussing the fee with the original members supporting this movement evolving into a certified class action. They all agreed to 30% plus Disbursements? I think I also signed on and was aware of this figure. I believe if the lawyers felt 30% would be acceptable to the court they would have asked for the full amount. I would like the Justice to give them a percentage but cap the upper limit of what they can receive(.IE: 10% to a max of 50 million,20% to a max of _)

Guest, the contract was not actually for 30% fees. That was merely a starting point with actual fees to be determined at a later date by the judge. This is always the case because just imagine if the settlement ended up being for 100,000 total. 30% would only be 30,000. On the other extreme, an 888 million settlement would also result in an unreasonable fee if 30% charged. Judge always decides what is fair and equitable in these class action cases.

We were wronged if McInnes Cooper gets less than what they are legally entitled to have they been wronged too. We must support them being wronged and insist the federal court makes it right for them to. Otherwise we are hypo-critics.
30% plus disbursements nothing less. Then we can focus on the government to give us tax breaks and suggest they consider or reconsider paying legal fees.

Great foot why wow ? If I have a legal agreement with anyone I would expect it totally 100% honored. We need people to here to stand up for the law firm. Without them I would be paying a 22% interest charge on my card and still fixing my Honda! Its up to the Federal court to up hold the legal agreement signed that is 30% !
I do agree that we should get tax relief and the government paying the legal fees but that isn't happening unless the PM is replaced by General Dalliere or Senator Dalliere or me or another vet here!

ChiefD, unfortunately based on what I have read on Csat, this settlement proposal will not change hence forth. The only options left to decide is how much contingancy fee and stipend there will be granted and of course whether the proposal if accepted or denied by Judge Barnes. As much as I agree with your intentions, unfortunately due to the Gag order we are a day late and a dollar short.
