They sent out a couple of generic letters in mass with no explanation.
Plenty of appeals are now foreseen in the upcoming future, now equalling more work for our civilian counterparts.

Career Impact Allowance (CIA) - Page 25 Empty Review of CIA

Post by acerman1234 Wed 05 Apr 2017, 16:27

hi..........

This is the Letter I received,
"As you are currently receiving the Permanent Impairment Allowance, we want to
make you aware of some changes to the benefit as of April 1, 2017.
The name of this benefit was changed to "Career Impact Allowance" to better reflect
the intent of the program.
Consistent with the recommendations made by the Standing Committee on
Veterans Affairs, a new assessment was introduced to determine the impact your
service-related condition had on your earning potential.
We have reviewed your file, applied this new assessment and determined that your
benefit will remain the same.
Our assessment showed that you served 20 years or more of a standard 25 year
career. Twenty-five years is the duration of service required to receive an
immediate annuity under the Canadian Forces Superannuation Act. Given you
served 20 years or more, your military career was not impacted and therefore does
not affect your current grade level."

Funny,,,I was on an IPS contract cut short at the 23 year mark cutting my career short
12 plus years,,,,,,,,yet they state "your military career was not impacted and therefore does
not affect your current grade level." ??? Before that Contract I was on a 20 IE.....not a standard
25 year? So I figure 12 years cut my pension 24% at least not counting loss of wages and other
losses. No impact my as%.......

CIA assessment seems to be based on 25 year of service. I was on IPS indifferent period of service 35 years, on my 20th year is when my accident happen. I don't see anywhere in what I was reading that takes this into consideration.

it sounds to me, more like something required for determining TPI/DEC, than just CIA.

Czerv..

Ya my CM got me to get me Doctor and the Psychologist to do an Employment Assessment, because once she receives them, she is gonna setup the interdisciplinary thing they have to setup to have some be deemed DEC (TPI)

So with these 2 reports, it'll give her the information she'll need to submit at the meeting, to have me deemed DEC.

Both have said I am unable to work, and this is like my 3rd rehab program so I dunno who these evaluater are in VAC
but I don't think they are really reading our files, just spewing out crap, and letting the appeals department deal with everyone who got the NO INCREASE letters.

But ya that form is a VAC form questionnaire.

Willie

VAC has stated no veteran will receive less money due to the reassessment. Don't worry you'll be fine.

Received this letter in the My DVA inbox. I hope the re-assessment doesn't reduce the CIA and CIAS payments? By the sounds of the letter another medical questionnaire is looming?

As you are currently receiving the Permanent Impairment Allowance, we want to
make you aware of some changes to the benefit as of April 1, 2017.

The name of this benefit was changed to "Career Impact Allowance" to better reflect
the intent of the program.

Consistent with the recommendations made by the Standing Committee on
Veterans Affairs, a new assessment was introduced to determine the impact your
service-related condition had on your earning potential.

You may benefit from these changes. Over the coming months, we will assess your
Career Impairment Allowance to see if you qualify for a higher grade level.

This will not affect any other benefits you receive from Veterans Affairs
Canada (VAC).

You are not required to take any action at this time. We will inform you if we require
any additional information to complete the assessment.

Binrat, any mention of your career cut short in the letter?

Sorry to hear VAC has failed you as well. I suspect there will be many more denial letters going out.

just finished writing out an employment assessment questionnaire, and he stated in there, that I will not
work or have gainful employment, same with the Psychologist, hmmm guess they aren't reading the file
the lying pieces of *&%^.

Oh well I see my CM in a couple days and I'll talk to her then

I'll just go ahead and appeal the decision in a hand written letter, based on your experience.

Vet1234

An intake case manager said it was ok to do it that way, but I wouldn't be surprised if she was wrong. I'll give an update when VAC responds to my secure message.
