Yes comox is a lovely twin town, Courtenay/comox. We get the airport there sometimes. Casino too. Rzm71...you pay for healthcare out here, monthly based on income(no VAC included). Something I forgot to look into before coming out. The healthcare, versus Ontario, is quite good. Shorter wait times for specialists etc. We threw darts at a board to relocate, and we hit Vancouver Island. I was trying for Hawaii but I'm pretty banged up and couldn't muster the extra distance! Been here for two winters now. Convinced both kids/families to relocate out here too. Some things are pricier, but there is a lot of farmers markets, fresh seafood either roadside or port side and local produce year round. Good luck.

Parksville, nice place. I'm living in the Comox Valley. Good choice for price of home. Far enough from cities and close enough to everything.

Sapper, thanks for the intel. I am also thinking of moving to the island. Relocated to Ontario a few years ago from NS for better health care. Did not find it, so my wife thinks we should move to the island where the weather will be a little easier with my health.

Cheers

Rzm71...I found a nice little town called Parksville to hang my hat. Close to city of nanaimo, but small enough to be peaceful. Within 45 minutes of two airports it is very convenient. Convinced my two kids to move out here also. And the seafood...northern ontario Red Lobster it is not! A little rainy in the winter, but pretty damn sweet. I did my time in Chilliwack as a sapper in the eighties and loved BC. Glad to be back. Have a good day.

I spent 15 in Esquimalt  with the navy  and I am moving back  this summer to Esquimalt area to be  near my 2 new grand sons ..
I would  have been there last  summer  but decided to wait  for this *cola* issue to finish first .
maybe we could  meet up some time  when I am  back in area  .

so (navrat) you spend 8 yrs in Esquimalt did you sail on any of the ships or were you stuck on the base ?
how knows if ya did sail ,maybe I was on the same ships with ya .

Well things seems to be moving along well with this COLA payout.

A fair amount of CSAT members have been completed, with some - getting some impressive amounts.

Thanks to all who have shared info on this, it all helps.

Have not received mine yet but I am sure it will be in next month if not this week. I just had a 12 dollar cola raise for last month so I know someone has been working on my file. My file goes back to 94 and my original settlement was huge so I hope I do ok on this one. I get CPPD and VAC and Sisip pensions.

Hey Sparrow...my gross principle refund was taxed at source (manulife) 30%, deducted by law firm for Legal Fee, Disbursements, Gst/Hst, and Pst if applicable. So it seems they take the gross amount, minus withholding tax, then add Cumulative Interest, then deduct for legal etc. So I think one should still be prepared for a tax hit next year as the interest is income too. Clear as mud?

Thanks Propat...seems surreal that this money was initially supposed to pay for raising children, paying mortgages, living life...we cannot get back the time. But recognition and some monetary recovery is always nice whenever it comes.
