CRA may not be static, but to say they work at a snail's pace would be an insult to snails. My reassessment is going on 2 months, just to recalculate 2 years of retro pay, and 4 days worth of a third year. So don't expect to get any answers this summer Peep, so enjoy the nice weather while it lasts, without worrying about CRA too much.

Good show Teen. Peep, will be thinking and praying that all works out for you, hang in there brother.

As for my taxes, they did use the 1198 but did not account for my request to apply the DTC. So paid in nearly $34k, at this point getting $13.5k back and have been told I have to re-submit my request for them to apply the nine years of DTC, so hoping that will make a big difference. Just hate having to wait for the fricking GOC to give me back the money they stole from me. Jeez one would think that went you put everything in the package that they would not loose pages. Good luck to those still playing the waiting game too.

yup a lot of different scenarios for sure the years of your retro because deemed tax is a lot more prior to 2008 than it is from 08 onward . the province in witch you live can play a big part as well so it is really difficult to compare one return to another as they will be all over the map at times.

Did you take your wife into consideration Back-up? If you claimed her as a dependant, or income splitting it will change your calculations.

One thing I forgot to mention I did a maximum RRSP contribution when I got my payment so that probably chewed up a lot of my $23K refund.

So many details to consider when it comes to taxes but you have the final word with "I want to appeal/re-calculate my t-1198"

A person with no kids, DTC for many years, normally an annual $2,000.00 refund, and after a 17 year refund now owing $22,000.

Really, seems like there is no Rhyme or Reason. "Mine us not to reason Why !"

Well CRA finally got my taxes done and I got back $23K of the $25K I paid. I got interest on the refund.

My detailed explanation letter hasn't arrived yet but for a person with no kids and 3 rejected disability tax credit applications I am a happy camper!

Paying $2K for a 13 year refund is ok with me.

backup I put up a step by step example of how to fill one out here.

FORM RC4288E Request for taxpayer relief

its a few threads down from this one you can use that if it will make things easier.

not much chance of it getting accepted but its worth a shot. if you get rejected you can resubmit appeal ect but whatever you do hold on to the rejection just in case someone challenges the fairness provision on this point so it could mean a lot to you down the road.

Thank you, I believe that you are saying that the NOA amount of $22,000 is the amount of taxes I owe. (I have not paid any funds since I filed.)

The Calculation sheet ---- I have No idea what they are saying. As long as I can rely on owing $22,000, I can handle that, I just could not fathom the ($37,000/$38,000) figures that were quoted.

I will ignore the QRSLP Calc Sheet and deal with the amount owing on the NOA.

I will also try to figure out how to send in the Tax Relief Forms.

I will sleep tonight. Worried all night about having to owe $38,000. Thanks for the PEACE.

"Is it possible for the NOA to show I owe less than the amt that shows I owe on the QRLSP calculation.

yes it is

no worries they had this in hand when they did your taxes and NOA . the calc sheet does not change your refund or amount owing from you NOA.

hope this eases your mind a bit

as for deemed tax its a big load of BS and should be eliminated.

just another way for the GOC to pick the pockets of people who got fracked.
