Thanks Bruce. Much appreciated. I did just do out the form on myvacaccount for CIA, is that all I need to do for that? Should I contact my CM to speed up the process?

I only found out about CIA last week, so I decided to apply for it with advice from some of the fine people on here. I had no idea about it. Does one need to be dec to get CIAS? I won’t even know if I will get CIA yet. I guess I have to be accepted for CIA before I could even consider CIAS? Thanks

Gunner, you need to be deemed DEC to qualify for the CIAS, and it is being eliminated as of April 1,2019.
CIA is Career Impact Allowance, available to thos who are not DEC, but have a severe and permanent impairment.
CIAS is Career Impact Allowance Supplement, only available to those with a Diminished Earnings Capacity.

Re: Career Impact Allowance (CIA)
that is a supplement pay on top of the cia and if you are dec and get cia you should apply for it i think it is $1145 a month and it's taxable.

I submitted my CIA claim online, is there anything else I have to do or fill out? Should I contact my CM?

Re: Career Impact Allowance (CIA)
Dave, time served considerations are only applicable, if you are deemed DEC.

Re: Career Impact Allowance (CIA)
Thanks! I did yesterday under the recommendation of my Case Manager. Since it is so quick to process it should be done in about 4 to 6 weeks. The reason she gave me is that as of April 01 the time remaining you could have served will no longer be considered for this benefit. Since I did only 4 years or regular service I could have served for another 21 years and this will affect the "grade" they may offer me. That specific clause dies in April.

Correct Dave. For example, I receive Extended Earnings Loss Benefits, CIA 2 and the CIA supplement, as well as a monthly pension under the PA Act and soon a nominal PFL payment after April 1st.
I suggest you apply ASAP for the CIA. You have nothing to lose, and could gain.

Re: Career Impact Allowance (CIA)
the only deductions from ELB, that most Veterans may encounter, are SISIP LTD, the CF pension, CPP(D) and employment income.

Re: Career Impact Allowance (CIA)
CIA and CIAS are in addition to what you receive from ELB.

Can you receive ELB and CIA at the same time?
Hi,
I am on ELB at the moment and quite happy with the amount. However my MC told me to apply for CIA before the April 01 magic date! lol. She seams to think it will be additional to what I get. I would think that they would deduct CIA from ELB would you think? Anyone in the same situation here?
