Re: Career Impact Allowance (CIA)
Sport.
The IRB will be the same amount as the current ELB. CIA is being replaced by the APSC, and they are adjusting the dollar amounts, to account for it being tax free, so instead of $599 for grade 3 CIA, before taxes, it's just going to be a flat $500 APSC and be tax free. . It could save you money, or it might actually cost you money, depending on your personal tax situation. If you are getting CIAS, you will continue to get it, but there will be no more new CIAS recipients after Apr 2019.
The major change between the ELB, and IRB, will be at age 65. So instead of ELB ending at age 65, and going on RISB, (which uses the total amount from ELB, CIA and CIAS to calculate the benefit) the IRB will merely be reduced by 30%. this could save severely disable veterans hundreds per month.

Re: Career Impact Allowance (CIA)
if you're already CIA and now meet the requirements for the supplement, if you apply for the CIAS does it happen faster because you are already CIA, or should expect to wait the usual 6 monthssports1977 wrote:I spoke with someone about a week ago from VAC and i was told there processing January 2018 CIA applications

Grade Amount
1 $1,828.67
2 $1,219.13
3 $609.56
The CIA supplement is $1,120.71.
So how does the CIA Supplement work,
is this added to the CIA Example:
If approved CIA and CIAS due to DEC.
would it be 1828.67+1120.71 = 2948.67/Month
and will this remove from my EELB.
would it be 1828.67+1120.71 = 2948.67/Month
yes
and will this remove from my EELB.
No
Hope this helps

Quick question..
Will the new IRB be the same amount or close to the CIA/CIAS and DEC?

Airlog if you meet the CIA criteria medically for level 1, 2 or 3 it doesn't matter the amount of time you have in.

Re: Career Impact Allowance (CIA)
Hi Bigrex,
My CM is requesting DEC on my behalf. This will be good for EELB. Seeing how I have a 31 year pension I doubt that I would qualify for CIA. Right?

Re: Career Impact Allowance (CIA)
If you are deemed DEC, and served less than 10 years, before being medically released, then yes, you should get grade 1. If you are not deemed DEC, then the grade is solely dependant on the severity of your PTSD.

Re: Career Impact Allowance (CIA)
See, it's different for everyone, depending on the medical conditions that are creating the difficulty. For PTSD, they very well may just go with the recommendation from your Psychiatrist, or they may request further evaluation, It's impossible to know, until you actually apply.
