Don't forget the PENSION FOR LIFE after only six years at the public trough. They live with themselves cause they have sold their souls to the devil in order to be "successful" lying, cheating smile in your face while jabbing you from behind politicians.bruce72 wrote:Trooper
They live with themselves just fine, with over a hundred grand of taxpayers money per year and for the PM over three hundred grand a year, plus all the selfies he can handle.

Of course it won't. Anyone whose gotten this award knows what it feels like to have a check in their hands worth that much. At the time, it feels like all the money in the world, and they realize that. That's why they do it like that, it's almost impossible to say no to, especially to a 20 something soldier with mental trauma.
If they said "ok were going to take your pension but we'll pay you $6000/mo for five years (the same $360k) it wouldn't be nearly so hard to see how horrible a deal was. The old pension would've paid you something like $4- $5k month for the rest of your life. For many vets, that could be as long as 70 more years.

Sadly, I don't predict that this current government or any government is going to bring back the PA system as we knew it. If they were going to do it they would have done it by now but with the new increase to the disability awards it is virtually guaranteeing that it isn't going to happen. JMO
I totally agree with your post Willie!
The government has played this extremely well, I think it's disgraceful, and sad that they play with Veterans lives in this fashion, I don't know how they can live with themselves.

So as veterans make a stand and tell them to shove they're increase to $360,000 and go back and make it right. But that won't happen.

So what this shows is like VAC is gonna crash, if per say they have a 25 Billion budget, in 10 year's from now, they are gonna need a crap more money to be paying out
Nah. Whatever they pay us out in DA, it's chump change compared to if they had kept the pension for life. That's why we're not going to get it.
I was 100% in 2008 at age 23. With the top up I'll have been paid about $310,000 in total. At my age, if I was under the old plan, they'd probably pay me about $3 million or so (assuming I didn't get hit by a bus).
These guys are making out like bandits, regardless of what CPI will be in 20 years.

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
Binrat, just one correction to your post. The 2% cap for CPI increases was for ELB only, because that was the cap set by SISIP, which ELB had mirrored. That cap has since been removed.

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
Bluesky
The next increase for the Max DA won't be till Jan 2018, what % the increase is We don't know, but prior to now
there was a cap, where the max increase would be LESS the 2%, so the CPI is or was 1.9% or 1.2% etc etc there was
a post on these values, But I'd have to find it again...
So as I said, to see what it could be like using per say 2% yearly increase, since we are now Maxed at $360K max award, as of Jan 2018 and using 2% CPI could be more or less now that they removed the cap.
So in Jan 2018 $360K + 2% the new maximum amount for 2018 will be $367200.00
in Jan 2019 with the CPI again 2% could be more or less, $367,200 Now becomes $374,544.00
So from now to Jan 2019 the max DA award will have risen $14,544
But I Do not know what the CPI will be, if it is 2% or 1.4% but it was capped at 2%, but that is now removed to keep up with inflation
But Please don't take these numbers as ACTUALS.. this is only an EXAMPLE of what it could look like

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
Hey Tiger..
so 2006 @40% $119069.69 - $104900.00 = $14169.68
So your RETRO should be $14,169.68
so 2006 @40% $119069.69 - $104900.00 = $14169.68
So your RETRO should be $14,169.68

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
Good day, maybe someone can help me as I am very confuse with the calculation of this.
I got 40% in 2006 = 104,900 dollars, so what I am looking at on April 1st?
Thank you.

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
Yes Trooper is Correct..
But what was happening, was that the MAX the index was, had been capped at 2%, But that had now been removed so now each
year the Indexing could be 1.5% or it could now be 2.5%. So to see where things are going, or could be I just did an average of 2%
for the next 10 year's.
So, really for me it's like Hmm since we aren't gonna always get topped up, for my Back if I applied now I would get X number of Dollars
for a 20% assessment, but looking at it with these yearly indexing, since there is no time limit on when one can apply for Injury.
If I can wait or hold out for 5-10 Year's, then submit my application then, you can see how much of a difference one would receive.
This was in the 2016 Budget, and I quote from there
" In addition, the enhanced benefit is fully protected against inflation. This means that the existing cap of 2% was removed to keep pace with inflation."

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
Bluesky,
No yearly adjustment sent to those who received a disability award moving forward.
What BinRat posted was examples of the CPI reduction reducing the amount each year to 2006 using 20% as a percentage mark.
Then he used it going forward 10 years without the CPI reduction, but the CPI added, again at the 20% mark.
The 2% yearly increase to inflation he used was just a guess of percentage for explaining the example.
The disability award increase to $360,000 is also indexed to the cost of living moving forward. This means each year the max amount will increase as per the increase of inflation.
This increase beyond the $360,000 only affects those who are approved a disability award percentage after Jan 01, 2018, and each year thereafter moving forward.
