I think it is safe to say 2 out of the 3 lawyers here will become Multi-Millionaires from this one case even after the law firm MC gets their percentage fee , and after all disbursements paid and after Revenue Canada taxes them.

I am glad they will be multimillionaires! << All our lawyers Dan Wallace,Ward Branch,Peter Driscoll (McInnes Cooper) deserve millions!

George- you spoke up and were so supportive of MC . But the tension towards the Government lawyers quickly dissolved when we realized that never in a billion years was 30% plus disbursements fees possible. Up to when Mr Vickery commented we all thought 30% was the starting point.

7.5% of the entire settlement of 888 million was the only starting point.

As long as the three lawyers leave as Millionaires and Dennis gets 200-300 hundred grand. I will be pleased for them.
For us Vets a fee reduction to 3- 5% will be substantial .

As many how went to halifax I would have been more than happy to accept the 16 or so %, believing our lawyers had gone from 30% and down to 16%. The fact is, 7.5 is wath was said to the public. We where giving two different figues most did not undestand, (se all the post on this) In court after the first day I still understud the point of view of our lawyer! It's only when the GOC lawyers presentend there understanding that I reallised what exactly what was going on!!!!! Our lawyers did not lie to us, they simply did not say the hole trught. We were innocent in the way we had no ideals of the mecanick and the workings of the system.

I believe if people heads were not under mushrooms and they were given the facts that real facts not just fragmented pieces of the puzzle

Because of our Cdn judicial system and the input of our crown AGC we will be ok with this settlement.

Who really wanted this GAG order.

Every time you heard something on the news and it was very little. They stated that we were happy with everything.

Put on a story about how Some VETS lost everything and had to go back to work broken. And because they went back to work they will lose even more.

For some VETS this is going to snowball even more and their fight is still not over.

Because of the CLAWBACK it not just a simple matter of take away money the was rightfully theirs. Its is much bigger than that.

RR-Many of the Veterans in Halifax one after another spoke up for the fees as acceptable at 17+% I think after, most will not admit it but after Paul Vickery addressed the court regarding fees and the total unfairness ...A reduction maybe in order but just an opinion.

Ok sorry to say this but as I read through all the press releases and I mean nearly 12 of them they all state exactly what the public needs to hear but fail to grasp because of the 100 car pileup on the 401 during rush hour traffic (for the sake of argument smoke and mirrors). We can only tell our story about our SISIP insurance policy 901102 that every CF member was ordered to adopt from the policy holder the CDS once we sift through the twisted carnage and finally figure where the gas leak is (that’s the shit that has been piling up for 6 and half years). Ward Branch you are very correct in that we 7500 veterans agreed to pay legal fees. Forgotten point that should have been stated, those 7499 members of the class by being medically released didn’t have any choice and had to become a member of the class, sure opting out was an option. All the hob knobbing with Peter Stoffer actually made him appear out of tune with the actual SISIP Suit due to him publically stating he was in shock ( who bought his lunch that day) with the idea that the Veterans would be paying the legal bill. Forgotten point, November 9th Stoffer presented Lead Plaintiff his medals, did the law firm not know at this time anything about the legal bill or was this just a last minute thing? Peter Stoffer was a piece of Political meat for the law firm or is he just plain stupid? Lawyer fees will be paid and they should be paid like yesterday, The GOC jumped on the legal fees and I agree but that does not excuse the illegal reduction of our VAC awards that our government knew about. Fact if you are going to charge absorbent amounts in regards to fees them expect to be slammed by those that disagree, if you think that stealing 65,000,000 hides the fact that you asked for 180,000,000 is justified then join Peter Stoffer in the long line of “Catch My Flipping Jaw Please” as you are the only group that bought into your “Halifax Fog” pipe dream. Last point and the most important point, the suit is over and thank god it is, but to those soldiers that said they had no voice you damn well do and I urge you to speak your mind here and everywhere possible. I wish to hell that Teen Titan will make a "sticky" with just three words, YOUR VOICE MATTERS. hey samsungremote just one point sir, 180,000,000 then 65,000,000 ok you have validity in your statement, bottom line though is that the whole suit has been smoke and mirrors period, the suit loses credibility when the focus of the suit becomes fees. A formal document that became part of CF law which afforded CF Members an insurance policy under the CDS. The illegal reduction of VAC awards is and has to be the focus. Money out of the hands of veterans period is wrong.

Recon 031 and others - I do not think that MC was attempting to mess with the judges head.I agree they focused on the 7.5% and that was confusing to US. The reason they are attempting to charge us 17.83 % is because it was very difficult to recover the 7.5% on the going forward amounts.(which they are entitled to because it is part of the settlement) Ward Branch explained that. Did they attempt to mislead the Judge, No way . Us and the media I think maybe but only because we would likely not dig deep into the facts . 7.5% from 30% looks fair to the disabled vets. Many of us initially agreed.

The clarity of the facts was pointed out bythe Crown lawyer Paul Vickery and his team (AGC) I always said 65 Million was too much. I think we all ageed on that now.

Yes , but I think he meant that all the fighting on here made us look bad to any outsiders, remember perception of veterans to the public is important. Also remember the settlement after everyone spoke is exactly the same , no different, yes interest rates might be lowered but I believe the GOC mentioned that for the sole purpose of reducing what they have to pay , not in our interests.

I thought I would comment on this thread as I , being a retired JAG, found the comments most amusing from the lower deck lawyers, Propat and Rags. I ,being in the legal field, find the settlement most interesting and consider it a very good deal brought about by the hard work of both sides. That being said this JAG BOY as I was referred to will not comment any more, I am not part of the case nor a member of the class action, I just thought I would add some comments to try and smooth what looks like a bunch of uneducated and extremely angry people bashing an agreement that will once and for all close this issue in a very good outcome for the plaintiff. I must add one more comment and it's about respect and dignity, Mr. Teen, runs this site and I have seen in this thread an amount of disrespect for this individual who takes his own time out of I assume an extremely busy life to provide you people an outlet for the exchange of information. I mean a great deal of very good information. So show some respect and don't dilute yourselves with this pity bickering, anyone outside the military community reading this would come to the conclusion that you sound like a bunch of spoiled brats ie. crying about income tax, and interest rates etc. Teen , your doing a great service to wider veteran community keep up the good work!
My feeling:
We are glad these two cried about interest rates taxes and legal fees! As a retired JAG Lawyer "yesterday your nick" you would have had to eat your words after you heard the Crown rip apart MC case for legal fees of 21 times the rate and percentage requests exceeding 2-3 times what any other class action law suit ever received.

My thought when they told us is the most confusing way that they will take 7.5% of going forward money we will not even make, on money that will be payed by CPP (D) and from estimated new retiree's. All paid in advance by the weak and in some cases short lived Veterans. And only told to us after they negotiated behind closed doors, and asked for not input, plus in many cases never responded to our emails, direct phone calls.

While we wait 4 weeks what do you think the the numbers will be?
