Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
I'm almost certain I read yesterday that our Minister was to make a statement/announcement today. I think it was about the re opening of offices, not to say he will not speak on other subjects. I will keep my eyes open for this.
Our Minister is in Calgary today, he posted this on his facebook about an hour ago;
By Kent Hehr
"Spent the morning with my dad handing out coffee in Calgary Centre! Great conversations on new oil and gas investment, newest pipeline approval, and my work as a Veterans Minister."
Regarding the maintenance from VAC's website, this has been ongoing for several Months now.

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
Well, the fact that the VAC website doesn't have a media advisory for this announcement is very telling, if he does indeed make an announcement today.

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
Blink,
No problem, what I mean is that the calculation for the award retro given to us from VAC seem to suggest the further you go back in years to 2006, the less retro. They seem to suggest the subtracting of the CPI of each year starting at 2017 and working your way back to 2006.
$360,000 - the CPI added for each year going in reverse. Then you would take your award percentage from that amount and subtract it from what your original amount of award was which gives you your retro.
What I was saying is that a true top up would mean taking the award percentage received from $360,000 and subtracting it from the original amount of award received regardless of what year received, this would mean all Veterans with the same percentage of award in the same year would receive the same retro.
That's the difference, and the way they are explaining it does not justify a true top up, but it would justify a supplementary payment.
They are saying that the $360,000 in 2017 is not worth $360,000 in 2016, 2015, 2014...ect.

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
Trooper this confuses me ...these statements?
I'm happy that they are increasing the amount in the disability award and paying a retro amount going back to 2006.
The supplementary payment for the disability award should be a top up to $360,000.
If a Veteran received an award in 2006, that retro should be topped up to the new percentage for 2017, for $360,000.
If they received $50,000 in 2006 and that is worth $75,000 they should get the difference of $25,000 for their retro.
You state it seems this isnt what they are going to do?
Can you give me "Refs" to the "seems" part?
Thanks
Blink

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
I'm happy they raised the percentage to 90% for the ELB.
I'm happy that they are increasing the amount in the disability award and paying a retro amount going back to 2006.
These two implementations are both welcomed without a doubt, no one should argue that.
What bothers me is the trend that is now taken place surrounding what is being implemented by the government for disabled Veterans.
Although welcomed by most, these steps although proactive still only provides bandage fixes from this charter.
The trend seems to be the ongoing gap fixes that looks to be an everlasting event by the governments movement on our file.
I strongly believe that this trend works better for the bureaucrats who in my opinion set this whole trend of everlasting fixes, by the invention of this charter.
So if this were to be true, chaos within our file is surely to be continuous in keeping inline with the intention of the charter, in terms of it's objectives from a bureaucratic perspective.
I don't want to always sound negative, but what I have been seeing by this government is not what I would call having the best interest of Veterans and their families, but the best interest for the government.

However, that does not seem to be what they are going to do, so is it really that good?
We will wait and see how everything pans out, we must not be fooled into thinking just because action is being done and some implementations, is the implementations really as good as they make it seem. Check your numbers.
Every time there's movement on our file in terms of implementation, Kent is going to use each one to defend the governments work on our file, remember to the average citizen, numbers and implementations look good, that's what Kent wants to show.
We all know there's going to be major blow back on the delay of the lifelong pension, Kent has got all that covered with what he has done thus far, this is all pre recorded in his head. So don't expect any progress on the lifelong pension, like I always keep saying, the government got us, right where they want us.

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
Lol, yep don't know who said it here. But this was mentioned before that just around budget time, they'll do the Retro announcement for joe civi, who hasn't got a clue that it was announced over a year ago..
To make it look like it's in this budget, very sneaky, but seems that's how JT works..VVV...
