Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
Was looking around inside my VAC account and clicked on payment history for my Disability award. Under "current benefits" where the description states " This reflects your current benefit and does not include benefits previously paid in full, with the exception of disability awards. Current monthly benefit values should be part of payment scheduled for April 27, 2017." So I am going to go out on a limb here and guess top up payments for DA will be on that date.

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
JMO here and somewhat off topic.
But I have seen a few MVA's over time. Good and bad.
Fantino was a zero, but our current MVA just might break his... record.
No matter the political party.
He is an insult to me / us and has been skirting his primary elected responsibility.
AKA... awol in my opinion.
For the life of me, how in blazes is he still our MVA
How is it possible ? Because I can't comprehend it.
Maybe he's the Minister of some other Department ... ???
Like some Oil / Energy thing ?
And sorry if I'm off topic...

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
This is actually an insult.. The MVA and his team have known this was coming for well over a year and the date that it was suppose to take place. Now they are saying letters will be sent out two weeks after the 1st of April stating how much the veteran will receive, yet no mention on when that will actually be deposited.
This only emphasizes the fact that they really don't give a shit about us and will do exactly what they want and when they want.
I'm so done with this and am truly glad none of my children joined.
And the deputy minister...I thought he was a shitty CDS and he has not let me down in his new position.
Slacket

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
Lol And heres what I posted yesterday --
"Lol, yep don't know who said it here. But this was mentioned before that just around budget time, they'll do the Retro announcement for joe civi, who hasn't got a clue that it was announced over a year ago..
To make it look like it's in this budget, very sneaky, but seems that's how JT works..VVV...
And this was news because...

Yeap but as usual VAC don't understand what the vet are asking. The vets don't want to know when they will be receiving the letter but when will they receive the money and how much.

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
Trooper actually it is an email address. I just copy past everything out of an email that I got from a friend within the department. I have been looking on line for the actual link to no avail so far. I know some people also share on Facebook a screen shot of the actual letter.

Tilap61,
The link you provided from your last post seems to be an email link, do you have the actual link from the press conference? Because there's nothing new in that statement.

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
I trust where you got that Kent Hehr quoted text from Trooper, sounds like probably his usual facebook.
That said, how about him serving free coffee and donuts to homeless vets outside Calgary centre, or on the road... for STARTERS.
I start thinking of vets, as well as those in transition in HIS constituency. Calgary.
How do they feel and where's the static?
If there is one protest warranted, it should be his very office, lengthy, and en masse even if he is not there. Just strategic and NO offense to Alberta.
Sorry for veering off the topic....

Government of Canada Increases Financial Support for Veterans
Additional lump sum payment for all Veterans with a disability award.
March 16, 2017 – Ottawa – Veterans Affairs Canada
The Honourable Kent Hehr, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence announced today that, after the increase to the Disability Award on April 1, 2017, all Veterans with a Disability Award from Veterans Affairs Canada will receive an additional, tax-free, lump sum payment. The maximum Disability Award is increasing from $314,723.89 to $360,000.
The increase to the Disability Award comes into effect on April 1, 2017. For those who have already received a Disability Award, no application is necessary to receive the additional lump sum payment. Veterans who received a Disability Award and are getting monthly program benefits from Veterans Affairs Canada, as well as those who received a Disability Award payment within the last two years will automatically get a letter explaining the amount of their additional lump sum payment by mid-April.
Any Veterans who received a Disability Award more than two years ago and who are not currently receiving monthly program benefits from Veterans Affairs Canada are encouraged to contact the Department immediately to confirm their address and banking information.
If you would like to manage your information online and receive communication regarding your Disability Award increase along with other benefits and services, you can register for My VAC Account at www.veterans.gc.ca/myVACaccount. Through this on-line service, you be able to provide information, if required, to expedite the additional lump sum payment.
Budget 2016 also provided funding for Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) Earnings Loss Benefit (ELB) to increase from 75% to 90% of a Veteran’s indexed military salary. This benefit provides financial security by offering income support to Veterans while they are participating in VAC’s Rehabilitation Program or until they reach age 65, whichever comes first. In addition, the enhanced benefit is fully protected against inflation. This means the existing cap of 2% was removed to keep pace with inflation.
Quote
“It is important that we recognize our ill and injured Veterans. Through Budget 2016 we have worked hard to reopen offices, hire more frontline staff and increase financial benefits for Veterans. I am proud today to announce that every Veteran with a disability award will receive an additional lump sum payment. This means more than $700 million dollars in the pockets of 67,000 Veterans.”
The Honourable Kent Hehr, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence
Quick Facts
• The maximum Disability Award will be increased from $314,723.89 to $360,000 on April 1, 2017. In addition, Death and Detention Benefit amounts will be increased accordingly.
• The maximum Disability Award lump-sum amount will be comparable to or greater than similar non-economic compensation amounts payable in Canada under private and public sectors insurance plans, by the Workers’ Compensation Board or as non-pecuniary damages awarded by Canadian courts.
