Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
Bigrex
I received a DA award in 2008 at 25% so when the time comes we can compare. However, I have a reassessment in and should know my answer around the end of November, so if approved it might make it difficult to compare next year.

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
Vet, I'm similar as you, even though I'm primarily covered by the PA. But I received 10% in 2008, a second award for 5%, in 2012, which was increased to 15% in 2015 after a reassessment. It's bad enough that they screw over Veterans when they pay subsequent awards, but if they pay me less than someone who received a single 25% award, then I will be livid.

Remember the saying "where logic stops, the army starts"? That's how it is with government.

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
Trying to figure out the years and the differences and the amounts gives me a headache.
They should just come out with a table based on years with a 1% = $500 or whatever it is in that year. Would seriously help keep a lot of Vets same like myself.

It's the like Colonel's secret recipe Vet1234. Wish I could answer your question, but I've no clues how to.

The CIAS is simple. If you cannot work, you get the CIAS. But how they determine exactly how a disability affects your career, is completely unknown. Is it going to be by the number of hours you can work per week? Your income level, compared to military pay? A combination of factors? the problem is, there are so many types of disabling conditions recognized by VAC, and each one could affect any number of careers in vastly different ways.

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
What happens in a case like this..
Awarded 20% in 2011 because condition hasn't stabilized, psychiatric impairment.
Awarded 35 % more in 2013 same condition.
Awarded 25% more 2016 condition stabilized
Would the 80% be retro to 2011? Bc it didn't get better it should've been 80% in 2011 but they wanted to see if it stabilized?
I'm sure I'm not the only one in that boat.

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
And 12 grand is worth approximately 24 to 30 months at 25% under the PA act. The feds are crazy if they think that'll suffice.

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
Just a guess/estimate on my part with Bigrex's math, then that would put 25% at $12,405.50
X 4 = $49,622.00
Will vary on your year of injury.

And I have a feeling most of us in receipt of PIA will end up at the same level we're already at. I'm PIA 3 and I'm not TPI so that's where I'll stay. To be fair under the current system PIA 3 is where I should be.

Re: Increased Disability Award & Retro
I still feel like that 11K was just an estimate, because that would put a 100% award top up at 44K, yet the difference between a 2016 and 2017 100% award will be $49622. But I think that the cheques will be sent out on Apr 1st. They've had a year to make the calculations, so they would have a real hard time explaining any further delays.
