Re: Disability Award Retro Letters
That's funny because my retro letter wasn't in at 8am eastern yesterday, but 810am it was.
The "other" payment was the same thing.... not there at 8am, but there at 810.

Re: Disability Award Retro Letters
I'd like to remind everyone to choose "paperless" communication on My VAC Account in order to receive and electronic letter about your top up amount.
If you do not do this you will likely have to wait for a letter in the mail.

Re: Disability Award Retro Letters
Howdie Howdie..
So I went back to another post thats like 60 pages and found the part I was looking for and re-post it here.
The most confusing part people are getting confused with is this $360,000 number where some are calculating it from or based of it.
Unfortunately thats not how they did the calculations. To find your amount you need to subtract what you received in what year, as per the NEW MAX
for that year, After Adjustment was made.
If you have 2 or 3 different one's then calculate each year individually, then add the differences up.
So He's that adjustment listing, and again they started from $360,000 and worked Backwards, or downwards they call it.
Please do not calculate your difference from the New MAX amount of $360,000.
The table below illustrates the maximum Disability Award of $360,000 that is coming into force April 1, 2017, adjusted downward by Consumer Price Index for each year between 2017 and 2006 for the purposes of calculating the additional payment.
Year Annual Consumer Price Index New Maximum Disability Award
amount adjusted downward
2017 1.5% $360,000.00
2016 1.3% $354,679.80
2015 1.8% $350,128.13
2014 1.0% $343,937.26
2013 1.8% $340,531.94
2012 2.9% $334,510.75
2011 1.7% $325,083.33
2010 0.4% $319,649.29
2009 2.6% $318,375.79
2008 2.1% $310,307.79
2007 2.1% $303,925.36
2006 0.0% $297,674.20

RE: Disability Award Letters
Thanks, thats where my confusion lies. I was reading posts for months and everyone was saying that we were to be processed in accordance with the $360,000 from our payouts.
. We're just getting topped up with our own money, since I discovered disability awards are processed and electronically signed in the CSDN electronic system and VAC then uses the old CDN software to generate a fake disability award that is hand signed awarding the applicant half of what the real electronically signed decision letter in the CSDN system has awarded the applicant.

Yeah, they were, in my opinion, duplicitious in how they went about this, touting the $360,000 for Veterans. That only applies to people who got their award in 2017. Everyone else is based on an inflation increase for the year they received their award. I got mine in 2013, so mine is now based on the new max for 2013.

Max amount in 2015 was 306,698.21. I got %50 disability at $153,349.11. What should I have received for the top up amount? My letter says $21,714.96, but I think it's wrong.
I feel at %50 I should have received 26,650.90. Can anyone explain how the top up is to work and if I should file an appeal and to where to appeal, please?
The new max for 2015 is $350,128.13, so 50% of that is $175,064.065. Since you've already received $153,349.11, you'll get the difference which is $21,714.96

Re: Disability Award Retro Letters
I sent them an email today in ref to this, the only thing I could think of was that this was an appeal fr a claim in 2007 that went to the board that I won, original claim was for 1430 dollars in 2007 I redressed it and in 2009 was given the 25243, Maybe they did make a mistake, it will be interesting to see what they have to say.

Ireland102 wrote:I got a payment for 2009 for 10% at 25237, the retro was only 233 dollars, when I did the math it was supposed to be around 6600. Is there something I'm missing here?
In 2009 the maximum was $267,364.94, so 10% should have netted you $26,736.49. The 2009 max was increased to $318,375.79, so 10% would become $31,837.58. The difference is $5101.09, that is what you should've received.

I would definitely dispute what they state you will be getting.
