Re: Tinnitus
Hey bosn181, yeah I will ask about that during my appointment. Maybe the doctor I talk with tomorrow can prescribe me the mask? Or does it have to be a family doctor? Thanks

Re: Tinnitus
art8 seems like you have a ways to go to max out. you should ask about the masking device i know many poeple that have gotten approved and it brought them up to the max. the masking device is something your family doc can prescribe but you will need a model number on your prescription if this is something that can help. i know they gave hearing aides for daytime tinnitus and a masking device for night time tinnitus some have a speaker that you put under you pillow and play a wide varity of white noise to help mask the tinnitus. when the lights are off and the noise is gone and you have nothing to do but lie there with the ringing in your ears having a masking device can make a big difference in a good nights sleep.

Re: Tinnitus
Well since there is no real diagnostic test for Tinnitus, it's based completely on what symptoms you report. So for a reassessment, it is quite reasonable to have a Dr. have a phone conversation. The only concern, is that use how well, or how poor, you handle a lengthy phone conversation, to determine how much it interferes with communication.

Re: Tinnitus
Hey, I got 4% back in 2011 for my tinnitus and I’m currently in the reassessment phase, as my tinnitus has gotten a lot worse. I have a phone appt with a doctor from veteran affairs this week, that’s how they will reassess me they said. Has anyone else had there reassessment over the phone? Thanks

Re: Tinnitus
Under the current Table of Disabilities, the highest assessment possible for Tinnitus is 10%, plus a maximum of 2% for QOL. So if already assessed at 11%, you are pretty much maxed out.
Table 9.3 - Other Impairment - Tinnitus Rating Criteria
Nil - Occasional tinnitus, present less than once a week affecting one or both ears.
One - Occasional tinnitus, present at least once a week affecting one or both ears.
Three - Intermittent tinnitus, present daily, but not all day long, affecting one or both ears.
Five - Continuous tinnitus, present all day and all night, every day, affecting one or both ears, but does not require use of prescribed masking devices or other prescribed modalities but may use non-prescribed devices such as radio, etc.
Ten - Continuous tinnitus, present all day and all night, every day, affecting one or both ears, and has been prescribed a masking device and/or other prescribed modalities (i.e., prescribed meds for tinnitus). When prescribed modalities e.g., meds are prescribed, supporting documentation from the health care professional should be provided)

How long ago was that Bosn081? Did you need an update audio gram etc? Did you have to submit a reassessment form? Do you remember the form number you used to submit the prescription? Sorry about all the questions! Thanks in advance

Re: Tinnitus
Tinnitus i think i got 5/5 and 6% for Tinnitus. I have noticed it getting worst in recent years. My costco hearing specialists tell me that masking devices do not work. Bosn081 say that if i get a prescription for a masking device my percentage will rise to 11%. Can some tell me the procedure? What forms # and name i will need to fill out and should i get a a hearing Doc Prescription before i even ask for a reassessment?

Re: Tinnitus
if your not maxed out on your tinnitus don't forget you can also get a masking device which is 5% you will need a prescription with the model number before submitting it which hearing loss doc can help you with

Yeah propat I didn’t get any type of payout after. It was just the $3000. So I’ll wait and see what happens I guess. Thanks for your help guys.

Re: Tinnitus
ya bigrex they do tend to play the numbers seen that as well but with this guy only getting around $3000.00 witch at the time was only about 1% at the time instead of the 4% he should have received they don't have a lot of choice here to save cash. either way they do it its it will be similar . 11% - the payed 1% or a 10% payment minus what was paid are not the exact same but similar to 36000.00. if they tried anything else id be fighting this .
now that is today if I'm not mistaken in the past before the last NVC changes no percentage was paid on anything lower than 5% just some sort of gratuity something like the PA witch explains the 3000.00 . the confusion with me is all the guys below 5% that received a small amount prior to the last changes got toped up after the changes .
just something to think about .
if he did receive a top up after then that would further reduce the amount and perhaps give them an in to play with the numbers .
as it stands with the single payout of around 3000.00 he should be fine .

Re: Tinnitus
There are 2 ways it can go. IMO, the way it should be handled would be that you get the current 10% award, minus the money you have already received. Unfortunately, if they are still trying to save money, they could treat it as a separate 7% award, paying you at 5%
I've had 3 LSA's since 2006. the first one was 10%. The second was 3% several years later, paid out at 5%, because I was 13% overall. Then in 2015, after an appeal, that 3% was increased to 16%, giving me another 10% award. By treating them as separate awards, instead of as an overall assessment, it saves the GoC millions of dollars. So in 2015, when VAC I finally decided that I was 25% disabled under the NVC, I was not given the $78000 that a single 25% LSA granted in 2015. Instead, I had only been paid roughly $71000, over the 3 awards.
