Tinnitus - Page 2 Empty Re: Tinnitus

I'm just going to go out on a limb, and say that VAC will only approve the 5%, because the aodiologist only recommended the masking device, while the TOD, states that the device has to have been prescribed. I know it's an unnecessary hassle, but they are limited to, adhering to the policies. But you could go to the Dr, and get one prescribed now, and give that information to VAC, so when they do get around to adjudicating your claim, it will be on your file, allowing them to approve the single 10% award.

I’m just looking over my hearing loss claim now, in it the Audiologist recommends hearing aids/tinnitus masking device on the vac form. Though my claim is still being processed, will the hearing specialists notes be enough for vac to assess me at an automatic 10%, ..? I’m reading here of people getting 5% and then getting a model # for the device and then going to a family dr. For a prescription. Is not the audiologist recommendation sufficient or must I see a physician.? Since my claim in unprocessed , can’t I just buy the hearing aid suggested by my audiologist right now and submit the model #?

yes  ,your overall disability % would now be listed with VAC as 21%, it would change nothing about your back payment  ,but st 5% you could opt for a lump sum of about $18000 for your Tinnitus

I am not sure I understand here. I already have an award at 16% for my back. If I get accepted for Tinnitus at 5% would it make a difference on my first claim? I have level rating 5 Tinnitus according to the chart bellow.

Table 9.3 - Other Impairment - Tinnitus

Rating Criteria

Nil • Occasional tinnitus, present less than once a week affecting one or both ears.

One • Occasional tinnitus, present at least once a week affecting one or both ears.

Three • Intermittent tinnitus, present daily, but not all day long, affecting one or both ears.

Five • Continuous tinnitus, present all day and all night, every day, affecting one or both ears, but does not require use of prescribed masking devices or other prescribed modalities but may use non-prescribed devices such as radio, etc.

Ten • Continuous tinnitus, present all day and all night, every day, affecting one or both ears, and has been prescribed a masking device and/or other prescribed modalities (i.e., prescribed meds for tinnitus). When prescribed modalities e.g., meds are prescribed, supporting documentation from the health care professional should be provided)

So the absolute maximum assessment for Tinnitus, is 12%, with the QOL, added. Basically, what it works out to is $3654 per percentage point, up to 5%. Then the next increase starts at 8%-12%, which is currently $36540. Of course that depends on whether or not you have no other disability awards, because if you are already assessed at say 17%, an additional 1% would bump you up to the 20% pay rate, and you would get the full $18270.

I didn't think anything of it and walked in to the office jokingly saying "the guy with tinnitus is here" . To which he replied actually yeah you have it .... we reviewed your medical file and your tests exhibit the magical numbers for it . They sent me for an audiologist appointment where he asked me a myriad of questions such as what sounds I heard, if I ever had trouble following conversations with any ambient noise etcetera ... apparently hearing electricity in the walls and transformer like hums in addition to other sounds isn't a thing lol. My audiologist appointment went well if finding out I have continuous tinnitus is a good thing... my claim in full including the VAC questionnaire was sent off around a month ago, I was curious as to how long it might take and what percentage I may be initially rated as...?
lm 4 months I to my wait,my understanding is 5% is 15000,10% which is usually highest is $36000,but tp get that your forms have to say you need a prescription for a noise reduction aide

Your best bet is to go to a Lawtons Drug, that sells the home health equipment (lift chairs walkers, etc) . If they don't have any masking devices in store, they would most likely have a catalog, with all the available models, that can be ordered.
